00:00 Speed cars are coming to the Adelaide 500 for the first time in the event's 25 year
00:07 history.
00:10 I think we've actually surprised a few people with having the sprint cars coming into the
00:13 city. I don't think anyone expected that that is something we would do because it's not
00:18 naturally a sprint car speedway circuit at our event so we're creating that especially
00:22 for the event.
00:23 To create that speedway, three and a half thousand square metres of dirt will be brought
00:28 into the parklands.
00:30 We'll bring in a heap of dirt and then we'll take it out again.
00:32 Adelaide City Council is happy with that.
00:35 We've got a long history of making sure we always leave the parklands in a better state
00:38 than what we've found them and this will be no different.
00:41 Documents presented to the Parklands Authority show an extra 63,000 square metres of parklands
00:47 will be needed for this year's Adelaide 500, plus an extra week to set up and dismantle
00:53 the infrastructure. The extra space will extend the event further into Rymill Park.
00:58 Only last week they came to us and talked about wanting nearly 10% more land, having
01:04 it used for an extra week and when we asked them why, they said they couldn't tell us
01:10 and frankly that's pretty disrespectful.
01:12 The LORD MAYOR doesn't like the Adelaide 500 but the people of South Australia do.
01:18 The Greens are also critical of plans to restrict community access to a larger area of the parklands
01:24 and want to limit powers given to the Motorsport Board.
01:27 The Motorsports Board should not get a free ride when it comes to the appropriate council
01:32 and parliamentary processes of using our parklands.
01:36 The Premier says the temporary speedway will be built here in the eastern parklands on
01:40 the CBC School Oval with the school support. The speedcars will run on Thursday and Friday
01:46 nights and will be subject to the same noise constraints as the event's concerts.
