00:02A night out at the Dogs at Wente, as it's known, has been a Sydney institution for 94 years.
00:09So it's a real end of an era tonight as punters fall through the turnstiles for the final time.
00:166,000 tickets were snapped up by people keen to witness a slice of history.
00:22That's much bigger than the usual crowds which had dwindled to just a few hundred in recent decades.
00:28Now, spectators arriving tonight were greeted by animal rights protesters celebrating the end of Greyhound Racing here at Wentworth Park.
00:37But for some, it's a night tinged with sadness and nostalgia.

00:49It's been here for 90 odd years. It's an iconic track. It's just got a sound and a ring to

01:00We've been coming here for many years with the idea of shutting it down and, yeah, we've achieved that.
01:09It's a good night to celebrate the end of Greyhound Racing at Wentworth Park.
01:12But it's astonishing that $10 million would be given to this industry to relocate their cruelty and their gambling harm
01:19somewhere else.
01:20Now, the racetrack here and the grandstand are set to be demolished.
01:25This whole site will be turned into sports fields and parkland for public use.
01:30As for Greyhound Racing, that's set to move to Gosford on the Central Coast.
01:35Longer term, there's a plan to move to Richmond in northwest Sydney or even a rival plan to move to
01:42Appin in southwest Sydney.
01:43Either way, the state government has pledged $10 million to help with the relocation.
01:50But tonight, there's still plenty more racing to come before the Greyhounds are let out of Wentworth Park for the
