00:05One of the first of what will be almost 600 trees removed from the parklands.
00:11I think it's appalling and I think it's environmental vandalism.
00:14Once you destroy culture and heritage, you can't get it back.
00:18They'll be replanted with at least three trees for every tree that gets removed.
00:23Trees are crashing down and it's inflamed tensions with protesters blocking entrances.
00:31The government says it's been transparent about its plans for the golf course,
00:35but the protesters don't feel that way.
00:37Our Premier wanted to be transparent.
00:39Why are they putting up green screen meshing all around it so we can't see anything?
00:44I think you find fencing arrangements for all construction projects are pretty consistent
00:48and you'd see that up and down the North-South corridor too, for instance.
00:52Even though trees are now being cut down,
00:54the protesters say it's not too late for the government to reverse its decision.
00:59They say there are still hundreds of trees slated for the chop that could be saved.
01:04But the government is pressing ahead, saying it took the plan to the election and won.
01:09The public were very happy to vote for this government,
01:13but I think that they've got it entirely wrong over the parklands.
01:15Not everyone is unhappy. Some are looking forward to being able to play golf on a world-class public course.
01:23We're members of North Adelaide Golf Club and we think it's absolutely fabulous
01:27and we'll have a fabulous course to play on.
01:29The golf course redevelopment was initially planned to host future live golf tournaments,
01:34but that event has lost its financial backer and its future is in doubt.
01:39Now the government has secured another event.
01:42The Men's Australian Open will be held at the course from 2028.
