Londoners split on Labour’s voting age policy

Two out of three Londoners we spoke to were in favour of reducing the voting age to 16, but not everyone is on-board.

00:00I'm not sure that 16-year-olds have been long enough in the world to have a particular political conviction

00:07or have learned enough just in living to have a strong sense of what's right and how things should be,

00:18so I'd be a bit concerned actually.

00:20I think at the moment there's a bit, young people may be outnumbered by older people,

00:26so any edge younger people can get I think is good.

00:32The only thing is I kind of don't think 16-year-olds are going to necessarily bother to vote

00:38because I could be wrong because when I was 16 I really wanted to be able to vote.

00:43I think it's a good idea, I've always thought it's a good idea.

00:46That makes complete sense because a lot of young people are much more involved, engaged with politics anyway

00:52and I think it's unfair that they aren't allowed to vote

00:56given that they're more interested in politics than their parents and grandparents are often.
