The White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds hosted a world record attempt for the most high fives in 30 seconds - with a seasonal twist.
Transcript
00:00To mark the 70th anniversary of Guinness World Records and to inspire the next wave of record breakers, 70 unclaimed record titles that have never been set before have been announced, one of them the most high fives in 30 seconds.
00:14Leeds' White Rose Shopping Centre decided to team up with two Leeds Knights hockey players and invite around 250 locals rinkside to be high fived twice.
00:24This is the fourth year of us having a nice drink here at White Rose, a bit differently done with respect at the shopping centre, but in previous years the feedback's been really strong, our guests love it, the seat is an alternative in addition to shopping here at the centre, so we'll continue doing it.
00:39So we're in Car Park 4 at the back of Sydney World and this is normally a car park, hence the trees, etc. So a lot of fun, we see this at the start of Christmas and people are really enjoying it.
00:50Working with Leeds Knights, we've got two of the players who are here tonight. We're trying to set a world record for the most amount of high fives in 30 seconds.
00:58So the two players will be going on the ice drink behind me and trying to set the record.
01:02High fives, how do you do that in the quickest time possible? Do it on ice. How do you get people to high five in the quickest time possible? You get ice hockey stars.
01:10So Leeds Knights, Liam Payton and Balint Perkozdi, great players, but most importantly, quick on the ice. Everyone with their hands out.
01:17Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.
01:31You've just created a world record, everybody!
01:35We gave it a couple of goes, 30 seconds was the time to do it in.
01:38They were flying around. We kind of did a good pace to start with.
01:44And then second one round, they were flying twice around the rink.
01:48250 people in here. It's a sold-out session. They went around twice. We're saying 500. We're very happy about it.
01:55We had the opportunity here at White Rose Mall in Leeds to set a high five world record.
02:01We had lots of fans turn out, lots of people around, and just a couple of laps around the rink as fast as we could, banging out high fives.
02:11I think we were at top speed by the end of it, for sure.
02:14We have to get through a lot of hands, and we're really happy that the amount of people turned up and we were to break the record.
02:20It was good fun. A lot of fun, actually.
02:22So, a nice intro to the ice for many, some of whom may become the ice hockey stars of the future.
02:29I think hockey's a very high-energy sport, so I think you see that in the fans, especially the ones that are coming consistently to the games.
02:37Whether it be the physicality or the speed, I think everyone really enjoys it, and I think we've been a winning team all year.
02:44It's been a really exciting season, and obviously the history that the Knights have had in the past few seasons, I think it's nothing but success.
02:50So, I think that's always fun to be a part of, winning both as a player and as a fan.
02:55We thought this was a great opportunity to have a bit of fun with our guests.
02:58We'll spread a bit of Christmas for you.
