Leeds United: Bamford and James hopeful of returns
Transcript
00:00 What we're hoping for now is that Leeds have a full or at least mostly full squad
00:04 Of course some of these games against Norwich
00:07 Two players who of course have missed the last couple have been Patrick Bamford and Daniel James
00:14 both out with Knox
00:16 Hmm when it comes to these playoff games, of course, you want them back
00:20 We mentioned last week just how much Patrick Bamford was missed at least against QPR and his hold-up play
00:25 Which of course can be key to the way it leads can play at times of course Dan James
00:30 Has had a good season in terms of his output both in terms of goal scoring and assisting
00:34 so to have them not available has been a bit of a blow and perhaps has
00:38 contributed to or at least been a part of the contribution to Leeds as a
00:42 Lack of form of late and so if they were to be back for even the second leg
00:47 Obviously you'd hope them to be back for both legs of this game against Norwich
00:50 But even the second leg if they were back for one of them, that's a boost in itself
00:55 And if you can have them in as I say the second leg and then in the final as well if Leeds are together
01:01 Of course, let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet
01:03 But yeah
01:05 It's a huge boost to the whole team because again
01:07 It's just more options to choose from in the moment you play with Joe Perrone up front, Vaz also calling for Matteo Joseph
01:12 But yeah, you're restricted a bit and what you can do when you've not got Patrick Bamford in the middle
01:17 And also you then have to rely a lot on Somerville and Willy Nanto out wide
01:21 You've not got Dan James who can come on as a replacement, you know 70 minutes in for example, so exactly
01:26 What's the thoughts Leeds? Are they likely to be back for any part of the playoffs? I mean, I definitely Bamford
01:32 I would hope so
01:33 Yeah, because I mean you've got to remember the thing is at Bamford
01:35 It was I say only and I don't say like he's sort of like belittling or anything
01:38 But in terms of like injuries how they sound initially
01:41 It was a badly bruised knee that he picked up at Borough and the hope and expectation
01:44 Was that he would be back for the next game, you know that he was expected to be back training next week and
01:49 Pretty much press conference wise ahead of the Southampton game, you know
01:52 Even then Daniel Farke was sort of saying, you know, I did expect him to be back
01:55 But it's been a bit more problematic than we first thought
01:57 So you would think if he was expected back for the Southampton game that he would definitely be back for the Norwich game
02:02 So, I mean you'd like to think so, but then again, you know
02:04 Sometimes these injuries can go on longer than expected
02:07 I mean, you know the best case in point this season's probably been Pascal Stroich
02:10 Obviously he went out, you know Boxing Day at Preston and you know
02:14 Obviously Leeds are expecting him back and then expecting him back a bit later than a bit later and before you know it
02:18 He's got to go for surgery and his season's over and stuff
02:20 So these injuries can often be more complicated than first and then there's you know
02:24 Then there's a case when you first see them, but hopefully he'll be back. Dan James
02:29 I mean, obviously that one sounded a bit different
02:32 Possibly sounded a little bit more serious
02:34 But you know
02:36 When the medical terms went through in terms of the injury that he has
02:39 I think a lot of people thought that might be a season done, but Daniel Farke did say straight away
02:43 No, we're quite hopeful he might still be back and this was before the club were consigned to the playoffs
02:47 He said that you know, there was a chance he might be back for the very last game
02:49 So there must be strong chances of them both being back
02:52 And yeah, I mean you've hit the nail on the head like having one or both of them back would be absolutely huge
02:58 I mean we said when we did one of these when Dan James got his injury and we worried then that it'd be a season over
03:03 I said the first thing people can say is well, it's okay at the moment
03:06 Not okay
03:07 But it could be worse because he's not a starter week in week out at the moment
03:12 But even if he's not starting he's huge off the bench
03:15 You know coming on against tired legs and stuff with his pace
03:17 Now that he's got more of a goal input into his game and the Bamford one's just so obvious
03:21 You know like his hold up play and it just feels like that
03:24 If he's not there then at the moment, they're just a bit lost in terms of what they do
03:29 You know, they play Peru up front
03:30 Obviously, you know, that doesn't seem to be working
03:33 Routier started the season up front, but then obviously, you know, seems a bit better at number 10
03:38 But at the moment you just want him to click in any way shape or form really
03:41 And then Joseph's obviously there on the bench but isn't getting the chances
03:43 So, you know, just put simply the sooner Bamford's back the better
03:47 And then he goes into the side and starts at number nine and also brings his experience to the table
03:52 So yeah, I mean, just want to get them back ASAP
03:54 It's a shame Pascal Stroik's obviously still out
03:57 You know, he'd have been a big player in the playoffs as well
03:59 But yeah, I mean, Leeds' squad is something that everybody's always looked at this season
04:03 You know, the strength in depth
04:04 And if you start taking, but then you start taking like two or three players out
04:07 All of a sudden you can start looking at the bench and thinking
04:10 There's not as many options as you think
04:11 So yeah, they need both of those two players back
04:14 And, you know, I mean, it's probably not exaggerating it to say it could end up being the difference
04:19 Having those two back or at least one of them because they're such big players for him
04:22 And I think, you know, the playoffs are going to be tight, let's be honest
