00:00 [Applause]
00:05 Ladies and gentlemen, stand as a witness, the official nationwide launch of EVolution EV...
00:10 I stand before you today, and the official launch of EVolution,
00:14 nationwide electric vehicle charging stations, move out.
00:18 The decarbonisation of the transport industry is an important aspect of Malaysia,
00:23 to meet its commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
00:27 The government has outlined various policies, including the National Energy Transition Roadmap,
00:33 the Low Carbon Mobility Group Meet 2021-2030,
00:38 and National Transport Policy 2019-2030, to help guide this transition.
00:45 With regard to transportation, it is not enough to only transition from internal,
00:52 international combustion engines to zero emission vehicles,
00:55 but it is necessary to develop an ecosystem that can support the uptake of zero emission vehicles.
01:03 In the case of electric vehicles, charging facilities are crucial to support the EV ecosystem.
01:10 At the Ministry of Transport level, we are currently looking at updating the road tax mechanism for EVs,
01:17 and I have mentioned that our commitment to lower down the road tax for EVs,
01:23 even though currently it is road tax free for the past two and a half years,
01:29 and this policy is still ongoing until the end of this year.
01:33 By beginning next year, of course, the road tax will be charged to EVs,
01:38 but at a much lower rate, and I will announce the rate for EV very, very soon.
01:45 However, many other ministries are also involved in supporting this ecosystem.
01:50 The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry have been instrumental in bringing EVs into the country.
01:56 While the Ministry of Housing and Local Government has developed guidelines and procedures for EV charging bays,
02:03 this has made it easier for many EV solution providers in terms of installing discharging facilities throughout the country,
02:13 especially in apartments, in shopping malls and all that.
02:16 The involvement of various government ministries and agencies highlights the complexity of the ecosystem
02:22 and the need for a whole-of-government approach.
02:25 To support the EV ecosystem, we need every ministry and every agency to work together
02:31 to roll out so that the entire ecosystem is friendly to EV users.
02:36 The National Energy Transition Plan has outlined an ambitious goal
02:41 to roll out 10,000 charging facilities by 2025.
02:46 Everyone, including the private sector, has an important role to play in order to achieve this target.
02:52 By embracing EVs and investing in infrastructure that supports them,
02:56 we are creating new opportunities for economic growth and innovation.
03:01 The transition to green mobility opens doors for job creation,
03:05 stimulates investment in clean energy technologies,
03:09 and positions Malaysia as a leader in sustainable transportation on the global stage.
03:14 A strategic placement of EV charging stations enhances infrastructure and connectivity,
03:20 facilitating effortless travel for EV owners across highways and public spaces,
03:26 contributing to a more efficient and interconnected transportation network.
03:31 We are encouraging the private sector to invest in providing these charging stations.
03:37 As we know, charging stations are like oil stations.
03:41 They need stations and facilities for EV users.
03:46 The government's hope is that by 2025, we will have 10,000 charging facilities across the country.
03:54 This requires investment from the private sector to place these charging stations in strategic locations,
04:02 in urban areas, in public spaces, etc.
04:06 This is one of the private sector's commitments.
04:10 We support this effort and hope that the private sector can invest more in providing this service.
04:17 Without these charging facilities, it will not be easy for EV users to use.
04:24 We hope that EV users will be able to use more,
04:29 because it will reduce carbon emissions and reduce the use of oil.
04:37 How many charging stations are there in Malaysia?
04:39 Not many. I think a few hundred.
04:44 Malaysia.
04:46 [END]
