The Minister in the Office of the Attorney General says the Government has "already drafted legislation on A.I."....Artificial Intelligence.

And the Minister also said the Government is waiting to be invited to accede to the Council of Europe's Treaty on A.I....as the Government is seeking the responsible and ethical use of A.I. technologies in this country.

00:32 Minister Sagram Sengsuklal spoke on behalf of the Attorney General.
00:36 Similarly to the signing of the Budapest Convention, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago awaits
00:42 the similar trajectory of the Council of Europe's Treaty on AI and to be invited of course to
00:49 accede to the treaty.
00:52 The Minister also referred it to another European Union based proposal.
00:56 European Parliament adopted draft legislation in May 2023 that included new regulations
01:03 pertaining to the use of biometric surveillance, facial recognition and other AI applications.
01:11 The proposal would classify AI tools based on their perceived risk ranging from low to
01:18 unacceptable.
01:21 Minister Sagram Sengsuklal then announced legislative efforts have been undertaken by
01:25 the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.
01:28 In light of the already drafted legislation on AI, the Government in strengthening its
01:34 approach in cyber security plans to be guided by this in our own local jurisdiction.
01:42 The Minister said the Government's cyber security plans include new legislative solutions to
01:47 the type of cyber attack the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs
01:51 suffered last year as well as the full proclamation of the Data Protection Act by September 2024.
