We hit the streets of Leeds to ask locals about their memories of school lunches, and if they think they should be free for all children

00:25 I usually have pack-ups a lot of the time, so I've not had a lot of food from school itself.

00:41 I think it would be nice. Yeah, I think it would be nice.

00:44 I don't know how that would fit economically with everything else the government needs to pay for,

00:52 but in an ideal world, yeah.

00:55 And what are your own memories of school dinners?

00:58 Oh, not always brilliant, to be fair. Not always brilliant.

01:04 I'm old enough to remember school milk, when we got that and Mrs Thatcher took that away.

01:16 But yeah, school dinners were sometimes okay, but not usually brilliant.

01:26 Yeah, I think it's helpful for children to receive free school lunches.

01:29 I think a priority for the nation should be that children are fed, so absolutely should be prioritised.

01:40 Good and bad. You can imagine having a digestive and a milkshake for your lunch,

01:46 but at least you are fed and it's better than a cold sandwich.
