A planned religious coup, possibly connected to the Jerusalem Bride Church, intelligence sources believe, was one of the reasons that SSA Director Major Roger Best was sent on administrative leave. Best is a member of the church.

The allegations connected to this church and some of its members who worked at the SSA, in light of these staggering revelations, later led to the suspension of the Deputy Director of Intelligence, Joanne Daniel and others who were members of the church.

Senior Multimedia Investigative Journalist, Mark Bassant explains in this report.

00:00 The revelations of a possible security threat tied to this Malabar church,
00:04 the Jerusalem Bride Church, triggered a series of events at the Strategic Security Agency, the SSA,
00:10 including the disciplinary action taken against at least six SSA employees on Tuesday,
00:16 including Director of Deputy Intelligence, Joan Daniel. These employees were also members of the
00:21 church. Director of the SSA, Major Roger Best, who was sent on administrative leave almost
00:27 two weeks ago, was an elder of the church. He was reportedly sent on administrative leave
00:32 for questionable recruitment practices of church members. Based on intelligence obtained,
00:38 it is believed that some of the members of this church who were positioned in the country's elite
00:42 security intelligence agency, the SSA, were poised to be part of this takeover plot and were what
00:49 sources say was the major security threat to the country that Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley may
00:54 have alluded to last week. TV6 News reported last night and in the Trinidad Express Today that
01:00 questions were raised about the membership of this church, which comprised at least 30% of
01:05 individuals from various law enforcement agencies. Pastor Brown had refused to answer questions
01:10 about members who were specially invited to join the church with mainly a military background.
01:15 The head of the church, Pastor Ian Brown, on Monday said he was an SRP hired by the Trinidad
01:20 and Tobago Police Service and worked for the SSA as a spy. However, sources say he was supposedly
01:26 an advisor to the Deputy Director of Intelligence, Joanne Daniel, as well as what they termed a
01:30 prophetic advisor to SSA head, Major Roger Best. Brown said he was paid a salary of $10,000 a month
01:37 at the SSA, but sources TV6 News spoke with over the last few days stated that his salary started
01:43 at that amount in May 2023, but two months later he received a salary closer to $25,000.
01:49 As the police intensified their multi-pronged approach to the investigation, several employees
01:54 faced disciplinary action on Tuesday following a meeting with Acting SSA Director Brigadier Anthony
02:00 Phillips Spencer at the SSA head office in the Knowles Building around the Queen's Park Savannah.
02:05 Sources confirmed that apart from Daniel, who had certain privileges revoked,
02:09 the son of Pastor Ian Brown, Jahiel Brown, a pastor who works at the SSA,
02:14 also had disciplinary action taken against him and several of his privileges revoked.
02:18 Sources say two female employees also had disciplinary action taken against them,
02:23 one of them being the secretary to the director.
02:25 Sources told TV6 News that some of the employees had been suspended. Police say they are also
02:31 trying to piece together recent investigations into the murder of Andy Daniel that could possibly
02:36 have an SSA link. Daniel was shot and killed on the Caroney Flyover on November 11th last year.
