Too Good To Go

Reporter Catherine Musgrove tries out the Too Good To Go app.

00:00 Booth Supermarkets have recently announced that they've joined the Too Good To Go app.

00:04 The idea is that at the end of the day, instead of throwing away large quantities of food that's short dated,

00:11 staff will make up surprise bags and offer them at reduced rates.

00:16 So I thought I'd give it a go.

00:18 I signed up for the app and I had a look at my nearest Booth's, which is in Penwithham,

00:23 and I was lucky enough to be able to get hold of a £5 bag of mystery chilled food.

00:30 However, I soon got an update to say that Booth's had cancelled my order.

00:36 So, feeling quite frustrated, I had a look at what else was around, and some things had sold out.

00:42 But, there was Asda at Middleforth, which is a small petrol station forecourt, that was offering another mystery bag.

00:49 So, at £4.40, I decided to go for that.

00:53 And, here you go, this is what was inside the bag.

00:57 We've got sandwiches, sushi, some little snack packs there of Dairy Lee, some crumpets,

01:05 some chicken tikka pastries, a vegan sausage roll, there's a barbeque chicken salad,

01:11 and every single one of these items went off that day.

01:15 And you can only collect them at a certain time.

01:18 So, for me, things like sushi, that was a bit of a risk for me.

01:24 I wouldn't have left it to the next day.

01:27 I would have been too concerned about eating gone-off sushi.

01:30 Same with the prawn sandwich, same with the egg.

01:33 Maybe that's me, but I just wouldn't have taken that risk.

01:37 It says money saved £8 there.

01:40 That's an estimate, and if you're going to eat it straight away, then yes.

01:44 But if you're just going to throw it in the bin, like some of the things I did do,

01:48 you're not saving that money.

01:50 I think it's worth a look, but bear in mind that some of the stuff you're probably not going to like,

01:55 or it might go out of date before you really want to use it, and your orders can be cancelled.
