A milk float from Brigstock Dairies Kingswinford, was stolen on the A449, Wombourne. MD Malcolm Brigstock explains what happened.

00:05 Just explain what happened with the milk wagon.

00:08 It broke down at 2 a.m. on Tuesday morning with a puncture.

00:16 We sent employees from the dairy to change the wheel.

00:22 And this was along the A449 in Wombourne wasn't it?

00:27 Arrived at the site and unbeknown to myself the nuts holding the wheel on had been put

00:37 an enlarged size on.

00:40 So my wheel brace and the socket, we could not change the wheel ourselves.

00:45 We had to wait until 9 o'clock until Kings Winford Tyres started work.

00:51 So it had to be abandoned on the A449.

00:53 Yes, it had to be abandoned on the A449.

00:56 They went out as soon as we told them about, no it was still there at 10, just after 10

01:04 and the vehicle wasn't there.

01:05 It had been taken at 10 o'clock on the Tuesday morning.

01:10 Goodness me.

01:11 10 a.m. on the Tuesday morning.

01:13 And I believe somebody saw them take it.

01:15 An employee actually saw them loading it onto a dark red recovery vehicle.

01:24 Right, right.

01:25 But I suppose at the time he thought all that had been authorised by yourself.

01:28 He thought it was one of a company that we'd instructed to recover it.

01:33 We do use a company to recover them but no it was nothing to do with them.

01:37 So they were stealing it basically.

01:38 Yes, they were stealing the vehicle.

01:41 So what do you think the purpose of stealing it is?

01:44 Because somebody's mentioned to me that it might have been for the batteries but you

01:48 don't think that's the case?

01:49 I don't think it's the case.

01:50 I think it's been stolen to be restored.

01:54 Right.

01:55 But that's just a personal opinion.

01:59 We don't know.

02:01 I can't say that it'd be viable because there's no expensive metals on the vehicle.

02:09 The batteries are probably worth about £800 because they're not new batteries.

02:16 I mean a new battery cost me about £8,000 but a scrap battery is about £802,000.

02:25 So what do you think your chances are of getting the vehicle back again?

02:29 Well I'm hopeful.

02:30 I'm hopeful.

02:31 But I don't know.

02:32 No.

02:33 I don't know.

02:34 And what would you like to say to the people who've done this?

02:39 I guess the stress it's caused me too.

02:44 An elderly gentleman.

02:46 I cannot buy these vehicles now.

02:50 There's not a specialist vehicle manufacturer in the country now that makes these vehicles.

02:57 So it's caused me a lot of stress and inconvenience.

03:04 We've got to see what we can do now to get perhaps a diesel vehicle to do the round.
