00:00So we're here with Chris and Becky. Chris and Becky if you'd like me to start introducing yourselves and say where you're from, say what we're doing here today.
00:07Hello I'm Becky, I'm from the Festival Community Centre, I'm the Chair of the Centre and today we've just brought you here because of what's happened.
00:16Absolutely. Chris here from Westminster Fire Service obviously if you want to introduce yourself as well.
00:21Yeah as I said I'm Chris Green from Westminster Fire Service Tipton so I was one of the first firefighters that went on the scene on the night of the fire.
00:29So just before we start talking about what's going on today if we could just give everybody a little bit of background about what happened.
00:33Obviously everyone saw it in the news, we covered it a lot. If you just want to talk about what happened with the fire on that day?
00:39Just everything got destroyed, like obviously that day we were doing an app event for the children and obviously we were bringing 250 children that day and just obviously we couldn't do it so we brought it here because we just don't want to let the kids down basically.
00:58Obviously I'm raising money today as well as the centre to try and get some stuff back for the centre but also I just want the kids to enjoy it like you know before they go back to school.
01:08Absolutely yeah and Chris it was obviously like a devastating fire we were talking about earlier you had four fire engines going down and that's going out wasn't it?
01:15It was going pretty well when we got there all the roof was involved so it was upsetting for the firefighters to see because obviously it was a local community centre and as Becky might be aware there was a fun fair the following day and me and my son come down the following day to help clean up and just happy to help really.
01:39Yeah and obviously you know it's sad events but what's going on today it's a fantastic turnout obviously the weather's kept up a little bit of rain a little bit of rain you know but the weather's kept up.
01:48It don't stop the kids now.
01:49Don't stop them don't stop them keeps everybody coming out and obviously we're doing some amazing work fundraising today.
01:53How's it been so far?
01:55It's been great it's been really good I mean there's some faces I've never seen before so that's really really good yeah it's good I mean all our regulars have come over but then look there's people who've been coming out and I don't know them and you know it's great it's great that they're supporting us.
02:11Absolutely yeah it's terribly sad what's happened but it's great to see obviously the community come together come to support you raise the money obviously that's what the community centre's about is bringing those people together.
02:20Yeah definitely.
02:21So yeah obviously we're out here for the rest of today as well aren't we when's it finished today?
02:25Hi.
02:26When's it finished?
02:27So six o'clock tonight.
02:28Six o'clock tonight so people can still come down still got time to get down here.
02:31Yeah definitely yeah.
02:32Absolutely still got time to raise some money we had enough donate we had quite a few donations so far.
02:36Yeah yeah.
02:37Haven't got a final tally but we've had quite a few.
02:38We are dying to come today with £750 for us.
02:41That's nice that's brilliant absolutely fantastic and above all that obviously smiles all the community centre coming together.
02:47I want to thank Liam and Gemma for letting us use the centre basically at Short Lotus it's great.
02:54Fantastic brilliant thank you very much.
02:56So firefighter Chris we've got a lad with you it's your lad innit?
03:00Yeah it's my lad Harry Green.
03:02Hello Harry how are you?
03:03I'm good.
03:04So you're going round helping collect aren't you?
03:07Yeah.
03:08Good lad.
03:09So he wanted to come down and get involved didn't he Chris?
03:11Yeah so I told you about the fire didn't I and you got upset and you said there was anything we could do to help.
03:16And er there was a clean up operation the following day so we just we just came down and er just helped as much as we could couldn't we?
03:22Put some stuff in the skip and cleaned up and swept and brushed and helped er met some new people didn't we?
03:28A bit of fixed as well erm a bit of fixed and wrapped some wood and put it in the skip and everything.
03:36So when your dad came back and you said dad what you been doing at work and he told you it made you quite sad did it?
03:42Yeah really really sad.
03:44And you thought well I want to do something about it.
03:47Yeah.
03:48Like five minutes later I went into my garage and got everything out.
03:53Aww mate.
03:54And then I went like we're going today.
03:57Well done Harry.
03:58But it was actually tomorrow.
03:59Well done Harry and then you're here again today.
04:01Good lad.
04:02Well good on you.
04:03We all need to be a bit more Harry in life.
04:05Was very proud dad you know that he wants to get involved rather than just go aww and then switch on his xbox again you know what I mean?
04:10Yeah you've got a good heart haven't you?
04:12Some things affect you and upset you and he was asking and asking if you could come and help and do a little bit.
04:19So we went down with our brushes and shovels and we worked in the morning whatever in the skip that we couldn't do then.
04:26Yeah.
04:27Nice one.
04:28And then we seen the skip go and get collected and everything and then we seen the skip come back.
04:36A new skip.
