00:00 Hello again, very good evening to you. It has turned a bit soggy across many parts of England and Wales today
00:05 and the wet theme is going to continue through the next few days.
00:08 We've had a weather system pushing its way in across the UK and yes, this has brought some
00:13 milder air in from the southwest, but the flip side is that it's also brought a fair amount of rain across
00:20 England and Wales today, some heavy outbreaks already.
00:23 We are going to stick with the largely cloudy wet picture here as we go through this evening and overnight.
00:29 With more rain also feeding into parts of Northern Ireland as we go through the early hours of Wednesday as well.
00:34 However, across Scotland we're going to stick with the largely dry and clear conditions as a result with some chilly air here as well.
00:42 We're likely to see temperatures dropping several degrees below freezing,
00:45 so a fairly harsh frost across some parts of Scotland first thing on Wednesday morning.
00:50 Elsewhere, a very different story with that milder air and a lot of cloud around.
00:54 It's going to be a pretty mild start to the day with some places seeing temperatures not dropping below double figures.
01:00 Otherwise, and as we go through Valentine's Day, it is looking rather grey, gloomy and cloudy for many places.
01:06 Outbreaks of rain which could be a little bit heavy at times and also perhaps something a bit more persistent initially in the south,
01:12 but also some persistent rain spreading across Northern Ireland, Northern England and into Scotland too.
01:18 As this persistent rain hits that chillier air across Scotland, we could see some sleet or snow over the higher ground,
01:24 but this is nothing unusual for the time of year.
01:27 There may be some brighter breaks in between the two swathes of rain across some parts of Northern England,
01:33 but I think the greatest chance of seeing some decent sunshine will be across the far north of Scotland.
01:37 Albeit here, it is also going to be quite chilly still with that chillier air holding on.
01:42 However, further south, many places seeing temperatures several degrees above average for the time of year.
01:47 Highs of around 14 or 15 Celsius, but obviously in the cloud and the rain, it's going to feel a little bit unpleasant.
01:54 More cloudy wet weather to come as we go through the end of Wednesday and overnight into Thursday.
01:59 In fact, the cloud will spread across the whole of the UK, even towards northern parts of Scotland,
02:04 and further outbreaks of rain and some of these will be pretty heavy too.
02:08 Because of the cloud spreading to all parts and the milder air becoming more widespread too,
02:13 it is again going to be a mild night.
02:15 Temperatures across much of England and Wales, similar to Tuesday night,
02:19 but in the north across Scotland where I am expecting that frost first thing on Wednesday morning,
02:23 it's going to be a much milder start to the day on Thursday morning.
02:27 As we go through the day itself then, again, rather grey, rather cloudy and further rain to come.
02:33 I think the heaviest, most persistent rain will be across northern and western parts generally,
02:38 but there is the potential for a swathe of heavy persistent rain to push in from the south,
02:42 affecting some central southern parts as we go into the afternoon.
02:46 We may see some brightness developing in the southeast and perhaps some brighter breaks
02:50 across northern Ireland, but I wouldn't take any breaks in the cloud,
02:54 particularly literally at this lead time.
02:56 Again, it is going to be a mild day.
02:58 Temperatures may be even higher than on Wednesday,
03:00 highs around 14, 15, possibly even 16 Celsius.
03:04 As we go later on in the week and the weather system that's going to bring the heavy rain
03:08 through Thursday clears away towards the east,
03:11 and then we do see a weak ridge of high pressure building.
03:13 So the weather is likely to quieten down for a time as we go into Friday,
03:17 but that doesn't last particularly long with more rain on the cards as we head towards Saturday.
