00:00 Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor for Sussex Newspapers. Lovely
00:06 this morning to be speaking to Doug Sanders of the Lambrettas fame. Now Doug, you've got
00:11 a really intriguing EP coming out and it's a kind of by-product, a sideline, it's, what
00:17 is it? It stands outside the Lambrettas, doesn't it?
00:21 Yes, it is, it's outside the Lambrettas. It's something I've been meaning to do for forever.
00:28 It's just because the songs are a little bit different, they're a bit more personal to
00:32 me and back to my roots, they're sort of bluesy, jazzy, funky, which the Lambrettas are a little
00:39 bit different to that. And the Lambrettas are still very much a thing, but this is a
00:47 labour of love I've been meaning to do for a very long time.
00:50 And it's a big collection of musicians, isn't it? And you go by the name Doug Sanders and
00:54 the Night Flyers. How many musicians are involved? It's a lot, isn't it?
01:00 It is, yeah, it's a mouthful. But I think, well, there's 13 of us in it all. And the
01:07 name is, yeah, it is quite a mouthful, isn't it? But maybe we should shorten it if there's
01:12 an album.
01:13 And you hope that there could be an album if the EP were received?
01:19 I've got enough material and that's, excuse me, that's what I'd like to happen. But it's
01:24 a question of, you know, how record companies or a couple of record companies, what I can
01:30 negotiate with them or not. So I'll be working on that when the EP's a bit further down the
01:37 line.
01:38 And it's interesting, you're hoping that the great record buying public out there will
01:42 give you a chance with this because they know the name from the Lambrettas. Therefore, there's
01:47 trust. Therefore, they'll give it a go. That's the logic, isn't it?
01:51 Yeah, I think that's the logic. And I think that will work to a certain degree because
01:55 it so far it has, you know, it's been reasonably well received. It's had a reasonable bit of
02:00 airplay and it's selling not too bad initially. And I think probably some of those people
02:06 are perhaps old fans or, you know, what's he up to now? But it would be nice also to
02:13 get some new people to say, oh, actually, you can play the guitar as well. Look at that.
02:19 The thing you've clearly got to do with this new collection is to get out there on the
02:23 road with it, haven't you? And that's kind of possible.
02:27 It's yeah, it's a hope. It wasn't the intention initially. But as time's gone on, because
02:34 it took a long time to do to make these songs, it's 20 minutes. And yeah, as times progress,
02:41 which is about a year, it's become more likely. So, you know, providing everyone's up for
02:46 it and, you know, we can all get our zimmers together.
02:50 You've got to, surely.
02:52 Yeah, then we're giving it a go. Yeah.
02:55 Fantastic.
02:56 That is a few months away.
02:58 Brilliant. Well, congratulations on the new venture. Lovely to speak to you and let me
03:02 know what happens next. Thank you.
03:04 I will do. Thank you very much. And it's absolutely my pleasure.
03:07 Thank you.
