The National Security Minister quoted from section 219 of the Defence Act to state the Government's position about what qualifies or does not qualify as camouflage.

TV6 News sought clarification from the Minister about that issue during a media conference today, as some people had been seen wearing what resembles camouflage at a fete this past weekend.

00:25 "It has to be part of their clothing or apparel," means that if a handbag is in camouflage,
00:32 that's not clothing or apparel.
00:35 You follow?
00:36 "And it must so closely resemble," which means if it appears in pink or yellow and brown,
00:47 you follow me?
00:48 It doesn't closely resemble.
00:50 "I continue, as may cause such person to be mistaken for a member of the Defense Force."
01:00 So that if she turns up in a real thin shorts in the camouflage color and a white or pink
01:18 top, that doesn't exactly resemble the uniform of the Defense Force.
01:25 The National Security Minister then referred to a recent court ruling on the issue of camouflage.
01:31 This thing has to, as I said, resemble.
01:35 It has to be someone trying to pretend or it might create confusion in the minds of
01:40 a reasonable observer.
01:42 But as I said, it excludes the question of pink camouflage print or yellow camouflage
01:49 print or the handbag or the umbrella and that kind of thing.
01:54 And the court is well aware of it.
01:55 It actually says in the judgment, the court is able, there's no complexity in the court
02:05 understanding what camouflage means and how it ought to be applied in any particular case.
