00:00 The Goulburn River here at Shepparton is expected to peak near the minor flood level of 10.4
00:06 metres tomorrow.
00:07 That's below the moderate flood level of 10.7 metres.
00:11 During the week, emergency services responded to about 400 requests for assistance.
00:16 About half of those came from the community of Seymour, with other key areas being Gay
00:20 and Avenel.
00:21 In Shepparton this morning, Victorian Acting Premier Ben Carroll visited the community.
00:25 He's reminding locals to make sure they keep safe as clean-up and recovery efforts take
00:30 place.
00:31 Here's what he had to say.
00:33 There is still a lot of water out there.
00:35 There's a lot of areas, a lot of streets that have been flooded.
00:39 And we're urging everyone, no swimming whatsoever, no driving your vehicles through flood, no
00:45 walking through floods.
00:46 You don't know what's in there.
00:47 It could be snakes.
00:48 We know we're going to be dealing with mosquitoes.
00:51 So it's really important that everyone continues to be vigilant and heed the messages.
00:56 The feeling in the Shepparton community is one of relief.
00:59 Relief that this flood event was nowhere near significant as the October 2022 flood event.
01:04 Another crucial point that locals have raised has been the improved communication between
01:08 emergency services and multicultural groups, where language barriers had been a big issue
01:12 during the October 2022 flood events.
01:15 As clean-up efforts continue, support for those that still feel those impacts from the
01:19 October 2022 flood event will be key.
