00:00Every day at 6am, come out the Singapore National Song.
00:04I will always sing maju lah Singapore.
00:07So, you want to sing?
00:09Do not sing.
00:24What's up? My name is Shili.
00:26I'm from Johor, Malaysia.
00:28I've been 30 years old.
00:29Hi, my name is Shili.
00:31I'm 30 years old this year.
00:33I'm from JB, Malaysia.
00:36Since I was young, because I was staying in Johor,
00:40which is very close to Singapore,
00:42I grew up in a very big land.
00:46So, we can cycling over there.
00:49My relatives always there.
00:51I have my cousins, aunts, uncle, all in Malaysia.
00:56So, usually I just play inside my house.
01:00My neighbour would come over my house to play around.
01:03We just like together playing our toys.
01:07If, let's say, outside of the house, like you're going to play in the road,
01:12then the parents are not allowed at all.
01:15Because it's the safety issue, because just outside will be directly,
01:18it's a car that passing by.
01:20There's no place to, like you know, no park.
01:23And they have a distance to go to the park.
01:26It's not that near that I'm walking distance to go over there.
01:30So, I'm studying up to secondary four in Malaysia.
01:35So, I decided to change my path to Singapore,
01:40have a uni over here.
01:42Mainly, it's because of they have a 721 in Malaysia.
01:46721 means that they are allowed 70% of Bumi Putra go to the university,
01:53and 20% for Chinese, and 10% for other races,
01:57to go into the local university.
02:01I know that chance is not that big.
02:05It's because of 20%, and I know my friends,
02:08all their result is very good.
02:10And then my aunts come in, and then she say that,
02:14okay, actually I have another opportunity to,
02:17maybe, exam in the O levels,
02:20and then come into Singapore for the university life.
02:24So, in the end, I decided to take the second one,
02:27that I come into Singapore for a university.
02:31My dad is walking over here since 1990.
02:36Although our house is in Malaysia,
02:38but my dad always having a motorcycle,
02:41and then in-out every day.
02:43Until that, I'm going to university,
02:47I'm still staying in Malaysia.
02:48But then, I will follow my dad in-out every day.
02:51So, I know it's a tough life to jam in the customs,
02:57that we have to, a lot of motorcyclists over there,
03:02pushing their bikes.
03:03But then, we have no choice.
03:05I mean, he has no choice to,
03:07want us to have a better life.
03:09That's why he came in every day for work.
03:11In the end, we decided to move in.
03:132013, I get my PR.
03:16And then, on 2016,
03:20we moved into this first house.
03:22Already stayed almost 10 years.
03:24So, this, we feel is very grateful.
03:29So, actually, on that time, I didn't expect,
03:33I can so close with my neighbour.
03:35Like, we actually just like a family.
03:37We have our festival together,
03:39like even lunch, dinners,
03:41like most of the time together.
03:43When I start to meet the first neighbour
03:46that we have talked to them,
03:48she come over and see my house
03:50that my fish tank at outside of my house.
03:53And then, she start to ask like,
03:55Eh, why this fish tank is in the water?
03:58Why would it be in the water?
04:00And then, like this and that.
04:01And then, she start to talk to us.
04:03And this is our first met.
04:04So, after that, like that time,
04:06she just have the little second one,
04:10the titi.
04:12Then, we also celebrating for the
04:14one year's birthday with titi.
04:17And then, Kakak is the jie-jie,
04:20which is their biggest daughter.
04:24So, she's very close with us.
04:26I always will bring her to the supermarket.
04:28Then, we will cycling together over there.
04:30So, she'll always be here.
04:32She'll always sit here,
04:33Eh, jie-jie, what time you come back?
04:35Ni jie-jie dien hui lai.
04:36Yeah, so she every day, like,
04:38sitting here with my parents.
04:40And then, they are watching TV.
04:42And then, playing phone.
04:43And then, sometimes,
04:44she'll play around with my dad la.
04:46So, as long as she not at the house,
04:48she will at my house.
04:50She's just in and out.
04:51So, she know the password of my house.
04:53Like, my friend over here is like,
04:55Oh, here is so kampong eh.
04:56You all never close your door one ah.
04:58Never lock one, is it?
04:59Then, we just can go in her house,
05:01anything, and she just come in anytime.
05:04She is very excited when she know I'm pregnant.
05:08So, she actually have followed me
05:10the whole journey of my pregnancy as well.
05:12And then, she very excited to see my daughter out.
05:16Only the first day that I come back.
05:18Then, she already here.
05:20And then, sitting beside the baby.
05:22And watching the baby.
05:24Also, she's like, very lovely.
05:25Then, she like my daughter a lot.
05:27She will take care of her very well.
05:29She will bring her to playground.
05:31She like jie-jie so much also.
05:33Yeah.
05:34She always like, follow jie-jie.
05:35And then, you know,
05:36if asked her to come back,
05:37then she will cry.
05:38Like, yeah.
05:39Keep crying.
05:40I want kakak jie-jie.
05:41I want kakak jie-jie.
05:42Like that.
05:43They are very close.
05:44And I hope that this close can be here forever.
05:47No matter that, you know,
05:48in the future,
05:49maybe we will move out or what.
05:50But, it's a very family type.
05:53Like, for both of our, this family.
05:56So that, although now,
05:57she's an only child here.
05:59You know, she have a good neighbor,
06:01jie-jie, koko, to play around.
06:03We don't know how it will be, like,
06:05the following years,
06:06what things will happen.
06:07But then,
06:08this is the things that we very cherish.
06:11Then, we know that,
06:12yuen ching,
06:13bu ru jing ling ma.
06:14Right.
06:15Any things,
06:16of course, that your neighbor
06:17will be the one that can help you first.
06:19So, that's why we are very happy
06:22that we really meet this kind of friendly neighbor
06:26and learn that much more neighbor
06:28have moving in.
06:29And then, they are all very friendly as well.
06:34Since young, actually,
06:35when I go to school,
06:366 a.m.,
06:38I always sing the Channel 8 and Channel U1
06:41because we are very near.
06:42So, I can accept the things.
06:44So, they will have a Singapore national song.
06:46So, when I am being a Singaporean
06:48and I sing this song,
06:50I got a lot of touch as well.
06:52Because when I'm young,
06:54every day,
06:556 a.m.,
06:56confirm the,
06:57I think Channel 8 will be,
06:59come out the Singapore national song.
07:01So, I will always sing.
07:03I can feel like, you know,
07:05the dreams come through
07:07kind of,
07:08of feelings.
07:10My wish to my daughter
07:13is like she can have a very happy life.
07:16This is what I wish to,
07:19when even I haven't pregnant yet,
07:20I hope my children
07:22to have a happier life.
07:24At least in their childhood.
07:26Not so stressful
07:28and it's not that
07:30it's not that
07:32it's not that
07:33like
07:34like
07:35like
07:36Now, recently, she go to childcare
07:38and
07:39that is very different with
07:40the Datika, the kindergarten
07:41that I'm going to.
07:43So, this is a very different
07:45things that I have explored.
07:47After that, my girls go to this
07:49childcare.
07:50I realise
07:51Singapore actually
07:52let them play
07:54and then learn around.
07:56They go to the trees
07:58to draw the track of the trees
08:00and then they
08:01go and pick up a leaf
08:02which is that
08:03I never been
08:05happen
08:06in my childhood.
08:07My childhood
08:08like it's more on like
08:09okay, it's education
08:10or you go then
08:11it's just study, study, study.
08:12But here that
08:13they're learning.
08:14They have a story
08:15talking from the teacher as well.
08:17So, she's very happy
08:19to go to school.
08:20In the end,
08:21I feel that here
08:22is much more
08:23matched
08:24with
08:25what I wish her to be.
08:27You know, follow here
08:28the education level
08:30education path
08:31of Singapore.
08:33So, she's very happy.
08:34I mean,
08:35I hope
08:36that she can
08:37feel
08:38here is a
08:39it's a good choice
08:40that I made for her.
