00:00There may now be a deadline, but big questions remain about Big Splash.
00:07Once the 15 days is up, really what we're calling for is transparency as to where it's up to.
00:12It's clear Big Splash has been let slide. The current owner says repair costs are behind another splashless summer,
00:18making it unclear when, or even if, the pool can reopen.
00:23There's probably significant maintenance that would have to occur.
00:26I don't think anybody believes that if the site is taken back, the pool would open the next day.
00:32If they can't refurbish, the current owner may need to relinquish the lease to government.
00:37On social media, ACT Sport and Recreation Minister Yvette Berry said,
00:42Access Canberra provided a letter to the owners of Big Splash notifying them that the Territory Planning Authority is considering terminating the Crown lease.
00:51With the lease back in government hands, it's unknown if the facility will ever reopen in its current form.
00:57Housing has been ruled out for the site, but redevelopment could still be possible.
01:02Pretty much everyone seems to think you'd have a pool and a water park,
01:05and maybe something else like a hydrotherapy pool, maybe a sports facility.
01:09A petition to save Big Splash has 2,500 signatures.
01:13We need those water slides, we need that 50 metre pool, and we need the shared lawn space.
01:17This week, the government announced its ACT Aquatic Strategy will be developed over the next year,
01:22including a new 50 metre public pool in Woden.
01:25How Big Splash fits into that policy deep dive remains in question.
