00:00 Hello, I am with Charlie from Bristol World to discuss the top five news stories in Bristol
00:07 this week. So Charlie, what is our first story this week?
00:11 Yeah, so our first story this week is that a campaign to save the last pub in the Barton
00:16 Hill area of Bristol has hit the buffers as the owners have gone back on the tenancy deal.
00:23 This is according to the people who started a crowdfunder to reopen it. More than £45,000
00:29 has already been raised from 850 people to reopen the pub on the understanding that the
00:34 urgent repair work was done before they opened the doors.
00:39 So is this a story that's been kind of spoken about a lot?
00:42 It is and you know there's been a lot of excitement to get this pub back open. You think it's
00:48 the last one in Barton Hill in this neighbourhood in Bristol.
00:52 Brilliant, thank you Charlie. So should we move on to our second top story this week?
00:57 Tell us a little bit about that.
00:59 So our second top story is about Barton House and residents have been told this week, those
01:05 that were evacuated from the Tower Block in November, that they will be allowed to move
01:10 back into the building.
01:12 So have they told residents yet when they will have that date or is it a waiting game?
01:19 I think it's a bit of a waiting game. Residents have been told that they will be updated on
01:23 January the 8th.
01:25 Shall we move on to our third story this week? Tell us a little bit about that Charlie.
01:31 For sure. So our third story is that Bristol Steiner School has announced it is closing
01:37 but a group of parents have vowed to fight the plans to close this school.
01:43 Thank you Charlie. So shall we move on to our fourth story this week?
01:50 Yep. So our fourth story is that a site in Bristol that is currently occupied by an unauthorised
01:57 caravan encampment is set to become permitted by the council.
02:03 Thank you Charlie. So shall we finish with our final story this week? Tell us a little
02:09 bit about that.
02:10 So our final story is about this amazing Christmas light display that even includes a cookie
02:17 cabin of all things. So two brothers, Lee and Paul, have been decorating their mother's
02:23 house in Brentree since 1994 and this year's display is bigger and better than ever.
02:30 And it's all for charity. The family have been fundraising since 2007 and have raised
02:35 more than £100,000 in that time. All the money goes to the Grand Appeal and this year
02:43 the focus is on funding ventilators and yeah, might even include a special guest in a big
02:49 red suit. I wonder who that might be.
02:53 Thank you Charlie. So that is everybody up to date with our top five news stories in
02:58 Bristol this week. Whatever you're up to, have a great day.
