What's been happening in the city of Bristol this week? Here is your roundup of the top
00:08
five stories over the last seven days.
00:13
Our first story this week is an exciting one for the city. A derelict city pub is set to
00:18
reopen after a successful fundraiser to bring it back to life. Tara and Sonny have passed
00:25
their initial fundraising target of £35,000 to bring the Rhubarb Tavern back as a pub
00:32
and community hub for Barton Hill, as well as a new music and arts venue for Bristol.
00:38
Our second story is council chiefs have been forced to delay a decision on whether to cut
00:44
£3 million in benefits to Bristol's poorest families after a legal challenge from ACORN.
00:51
The community union claimed plans to spend less on the council tax reduction scheme,
00:57
CTRS, were unlawful. Now, Bristol City Council seems to have accepted it made mistakes and
01:04
is launching the public consultation into the proposed cuts.
01:09
Our third story this week is business owners on St Mark's Road in Easton have launched
01:15
a new campaign to fix the street. The St Mark's Road Community Group has launched the Six
01:21
to Fix campaign, which is demanding the council addresses problems associated with potholes,
01:28
signs, cycle lanes, pavements, parking and loading on the street and in Easton.
01:35
Our fourth story this week is one that has been spoken about a lot on Twitter. Bristol's
01:40
new e-scooters have been slammed for lacking availability in certain parts of the city.
01:46
Tayers Turquoise e-scooters launched in the city on October 13th, replacing the coral
01:52
coloured boys, which had become a familiar sight on our Bristol streets. The e-scooters
01:58
have been rolled out in a phased approach, with 2,000 e-scooters deployed across the
02:04
city as part of the first phase. This is set to increase to 4,000, with e-bikes also to
02:10
be launched shortly, and e-cargo bikes, but people have taken to social media to criticise
02:16
the number of e-scooters in areas outside of the city centre.
02:22
And finally this week, an exciting one for the City of Bristol. Caring for Bristol is
02:27
launching a youth shelter, which will become Bristol's only emergency youth shelter for
02:32
young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The shelter will be open to service users
02:39
in early 2024. Volunteers, a vital part of caring in Bristol, have been stepping forwards
02:45
for training and for the new service as it is materialising day by day.
02:50
That's you up to date with your top five news stories in Bristol this week. Whatever you're
02:55
up to, have a great day.
