Leaders recommit to trans-Tasman roadmap to 2035

The Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand have discussed ways to boost cooperation between defence forces on either side of the Tasman, during a meeting in Sydney.

00:16 Before the meeting began, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he was keen to show that New

00:21 Zealand and Australia are not just friends but family.

00:24 And Christopher Luxon said that he was committed to showing a stable and secure relationship

00:31 in the Indo-Pacific region.

00:33 AUKUS was a point of discussion, of course the pact to get nuclear-powered submarines,

00:40 but race relations was also, that was also the point of several questions in the press

00:46 conference.

00:48 Of course, Indigenous Affairs has been a big issue in Australia this year with the referendum

00:53 on a voice to Parliament.

00:55 And also New Zealand's relationship with its Maori people has been in the spotlight recently

01:01 because of, since Christopher Luxon came to power just weeks ago, he's disbanded the Maori

01:08 health system.

01:09 He was asked about that in the press conference.

01:11 He said in his view, separate health systems wasn't best practice.
