Meet the owner of the award-winning Leeds salon that started out as a food shop

Leeds business of the week on Saks Hair and Beauty salon in Leeds city centre, owned by Natalie Jenkins.

00:08 Can you just tell us a little bit about this relationship that you've got with Saks, when

00:12 did it come to fruition?

00:14 Yes, so we've been a Saks salon for just over two years, we were independent beauty before

00:19 that.

00:20 We wanted to introduce hair services as well and that's when we got in touch with Saks

00:24 and we decided to join forces with them.

00:27 How long have you personally been in the industry?

00:31 Just over 15 years now in beauty, in hair just two years.

00:36 And have you seen many changes at all?

00:39 Yes, I mean there's always changes in our industry, the industry is always developing,

00:45 always new treatments, new brands coming out so we need to keep up to date with those.

00:49 Obviously there's been lots of changes with the economy and with Covid as well so we've

00:54 had to adapt to those as well.

00:57 You've just won a big big award, can you just tell us a little bit about the award that

01:02 you've just had and the sort of year that you've had as well?

01:05 Yes, so we've had a really good year this year, it's been really strong.

01:09 So in the summer we won the Beauty Salon of the Year at the Saks Awards, so that was the

01:15 second awards that we were part of so we were absolutely delighted to win that, the team

01:20 were absolutely over the moon.

01:22 And we've also had two of our senior stylists enter and get through to the finals of the

01:27 L'Oreal Colour Trophy as well in the summer, so that was a great experience for them as

01:32 well.

01:33 The salon must be buzzing after that sort of accolade.

01:37 Yes, definitely, yes, I mean the team all get behind each other when anybody enters

01:42 any awards and everyone's just really excited and they can't wait to see what they create

01:47 in those awards as well.

01:49 And what do you offer your clients here in Leeds?

01:52 So we like to offer our clients the whole experience, so it's not just about coming

01:57 in for their hair or their beauty treatment, we like to give them the whole client experience

02:01 as well.

02:02 We feel it's really important with all of our busy lives that we have for people to

02:06 come in and enjoy the time that they've got here and reward themselves as well and just

02:11 really relax and just be given that really good experience and obviously leave the salon

02:15 with either beautiful hair or beautiful nails or whatever they've come in for as well.
