00:00 Weeks after fronting the media, the Corrective Services Minister has been urged to correct the record.
00:07 What I would like to see at this stage is either a correction of the record or validation of the original comments from the Minister.
00:15 He declined to answer questions, but in a statement said his comments following the attempted suicide were based on preliminary advice provided to his office.
00:23 If he was misled by his department, that would be extraordinary incompetence on the part of the department.
00:28 I mean, I can only assume, having been a Minister for almost nine years, if the department gives you information that's proven to be incorrect, they'll correct the record almost instantly.
00:38 For some, the revelations have generated more questions than answers.
00:42 I don't want to talk about the specifics of this, but if you had a message that was threatening self-harm, you would expect an immediate response.
00:50 Officers, particularly on night shift, not having a radio or a set of keys struck me as very unusual.
00:56 The details have drawn anger from the National Children's Commissioner.
01:00 I was truly shocked and distressed.
01:03 She's concerned this apparent lack of diligence is not a one-off.
01:07 There have been other instances of children being uncovered, sorry, being found by staff unconscious and have been triaged, and it's only by luck that they're still alive.
01:21 Fearing for the children that remain at Unit 18.
01:24 team.
