Martin Dempster reports from the Challenge Tour Grand Final in Mallorca.
Transcript
00:00 Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent coming to you from Coney
00:07 Golf in Arkanada, where we've had another windy old day for the Rolex Challenge Tour
00:14 Grand Final, supported by the R&A. The play was halted here on Thursday due to high winds,
00:21 when the gusts got up to 45mph. Not quite as bad today, but it was still a real old
00:29 test out there. The wind was about 35mph at times, and that proved a real test for the
00:36 players in the third round of the final event of the season. 20 DP World Tour cards are
00:43 up for grabs, and it's going to be quite an exciting last day tomorrow in the battle for
00:49 those coveted spots. Englishman Marco Penge, he leads the way now in the Road to Mallorca
00:56 standings, he's the leader of the tournament after 54 holes on 7 under. Others set to jump
01:02 into card winning positions as things stand at the moment are Frenchman Tom Valland, his
01:08 compatriot Frédéric Lacroix, and English duo Brandon Robinson-Thompson, and Sam Bairstow.
01:15 Bairstow, he won the Farm Foods Scots Challenge at Newmacker earlier in the year. That win
01:21 helped him get to this final event of the season, 45-man field. He's making the most
01:27 of that opportunity, and we'll always be grateful for the chance to play at Newmacker and land
01:33 that win to really tee up his season, change his season. He's got an exciting final day
01:39 ahead. The two Scots on the field, Ewan Walker, he was the 20th position at the start of the
01:47 week, which would have seen him step up to the DP World Tour next season. Unfortunately,
01:53 it's been a tough last couple of days for Ewan. He's now down to 25th in the projected
01:59 standings. Seems unlikely that he'll be able to turn it around, but you never know. Craig
02:05 Howie, he was 42nd at the start of the week. He needs to finish in the top two. He charged
02:11 up the leaderboard today. He was up to 1 under, maybe 4 or 5 shots off the lead at that point,
02:16 took a double bogey at the 16th, which was unfortunate. He's played fantastically well
02:23 over the last couple of days and still has an outside chance. Last day of the season
02:28 tomorrow, always drama. There'll be joy, there'll be heartbreak. Keep up to date with the Challenge
02:35 Tour Grand Final on Scotsman.com and in the Scotsman.
