00:00 The Defense Ministry has issued a clarification regarding recent reports concerning the age

00:07 limit for National Service Training Program trainees being up to 35 years.

00:12 In a statement, the ministry said trainees will be called up based on their year of birth

00:16 and that only teenagers will be enrolled when the program commences again.

00:21 To illustrate the point, the ministry explained that, for instance, if the program is implemented

00:26 in 2024, only teenagers born in the year 2007 will be called up to participate in the program.

00:32 It said that those who are unable to participate in the program for valid reasons have the

00:37 option to request for a deferment and that in such cases, the maximum age to serve as

00:41 trainee is 35 years.

00:45 Many Malaysians took to social media earlier this week to express their fear that anyone

00:49 in their 30s could also be forced to join the program if they were called up when the

00:53 program is officially revived.

00:55 The program had been criticized by various quarters in the past and was abolished by

00:59 the former Pakatan Harapan government in 2018.
