00:00 George Santos notoriously lied his way into office and is currently facing criminal charges
00:05 ranging from wire fraud to aggravated identity theft to conspiracy.
00:09 Now the Republican representative from New York has reportedly told the New York Times
00:13 that his 5-year-old niece was kidnapped by Chinese communist agents.
00:17 He told interviewer Grace Ashford that he was watching his niece at a playground in
00:20 Queens when she suddenly disappeared.
00:23 According to Santos' story, she was discovered via security cameras 40 minutes later next
00:28 to two Chinese men.
00:29 With Santos allegedly implying they were agents of the communist Chinese government, telling
00:34 Ashford at the time, "Look, I don't want to go into like conspiracy theory, but you know
00:39 if the shoe fits, right?"
00:40 The New York Times reported that the NYPD would not provide an official statement.
00:44 However, a high-ranking police official did admit they had investigated the claim, telling
00:48 Ashford that they found nothing at all to suggest it's true.
00:52 Despite Santos' myriad lies, dozens of which have been falsified at this point and a referral
00:56 to the House Ethics Committee this past May, fellow Republicans have voted to keep him
01:00 in office.
01:01 Now he will go on to face federal criminal charges, many of which could carry prison
01:06 terms.
