Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) holds a 2024 presidential campaign rally in Ceston, Iowa, in which he says that the U.S. should not accept refugees from Gaza.
Transcript
00:00 like the United Nations, they're going to start attacking Israel and they're going to
00:04 blame Israel for this.
00:06 So think about like going into Gaza Strip.
00:09 Israel is telling people, leave this area because we're going to conduct military operations
00:15 because they don't want to have civilians killed.
00:17 What is Hamas saying?
00:19 They're saying stay in that area because they want the civilians used as human shields.
00:25 Don't tell me that this is Israel's fault.
00:28 It is not.
00:29 And you're going to start to see more and more pressure.
00:31 So we just have to remain strong as Americans that they have to be able to defend themselves.
00:37 They are not the problem here.
00:40 And we got to have a mortal blow to Sunni jihadists.
00:45 Also I will say, and I don't know what Biden's going to do, but we cannot accept people from
00:51 Gaza into this country as refugees.
00:53 I am not going to do that.
00:55 If you look at how they behave, not all of them are Hamas, but they are all anti-Semitic.
01:02 None of them believe in Israel's right to exist.
01:05 None of the Arab states are willing to take any of them.
01:09 The Arab states should be taking them if you have refugees.
01:12 You don't fly people and import them into the United States of America.
01:16 So we're going to be very strong on that.
01:18 And I think about our country.
01:20 You see these demonstrations supporting Hamas in the United States of America.
01:26 How did we get to the point where people are out there doing that?
01:30 You get reports of babies being murdered, all this other stuff, and your first instinct
01:35 is to go out and praise the terrorists who perpetrated that?
01:40 You have students at Harvard signing letters, saying, praising Hamas for doing it.
01:46 We've got some serious problems in this country.
01:49 We've allowed a lot of these problems to fester.
01:51 But my view is very simple.
01:54 If you don't like this country, if you hate America, you should not come to this country.
02:00 We've got to start being smart about this.
02:07 And what this also raises is the question of how much risk now do we have as Americans
02:14 because of this open border that we've had.
02:17 And obviously, it's worse than it's ever been under Biden, but this has been a problem
02:21 for decades.
02:22 There have been people that have come.
02:24 You know under Biden, people from the terror watch list have come in.
02:27 And that's not me saying it.
02:28 That's Biden's own DHS saying it, people coming in.
02:32 Seven plus million.
02:34 We know people have come from Iran, China, Russia, Middle East, all these other places.
02:39 Do you think, honestly, all seven million are just here not wanting to -- you don't
02:46 think there's any percentage of those who want to do this?
02:49 Of course there are.
02:50 I mean, it's just mathematically impossible that there's not.
02:53 And I've said publicly many times prior to this, the terrorist attacks against Israel,
03:00 there will be a terrorist attack in this country that we'll be able to link to that southern
03:05 border.
03:06 It's just the reality.
03:07 This is what's happened, and our country is vulnerable.
03:10 So we're going to take the issue of the southern border very seriously.
03:14 It's not going to be something that we just slowly hear about.
