00:03 Hello, my name is Alexander Brown.
00:09 I'm the Scotsman's Westminster correspondent.
00:11 And I'm here at Conservative Party Conference
00:13 where we've just heard from Suella Braverman, who
00:15 gave a speech, much like every other speech here,
00:18 incredibly light on policy, where
00:20 she talked about the waves of immigration that could come
00:23 here if Labour got into power, and how
00:25 she promised the UK government would
00:26 do everything to stop that.
00:28 She didn't say how they would stop that,
00:29 beyond the measures that have already been announced.
00:31 And the real story here about Suella Braverman
00:33 is the growing anger among Tory MPs and activists
00:36 that she is essentially trying to build some sort of leadership
00:38 challenge.
00:39 I spoke to numerous people here who are angry with her,
00:42 but also kind of dismissive.
00:43 They do not think that she has the support to be a leader,
00:46 but that she basically is shamelessly
00:48 trying to position herself to be the leader of the opposition,
00:51 with many expecting Rishi Sunak to lose the next election.
00:55 I was also told that the reason why there's
00:57 been this lack of policy, both in Jeremy Hunt's speech
01:00 and the Home Secretary's speech, is
01:01 that tomorrow the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak,
01:03 will deliver one very heavy on policy
01:05 with a string of announcements, so people can know that it's
01:08 his vision and improve his popularity, as well
01:12 as that of the party.
01:13 So that's something to look forward to tomorrow,
01:15 here in a very rainy Manchester.
01:17 Thank you so much for watching.
01:19 And for all that and more, stay tuned to thescotsman.com.
