A restaurant worker pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate's Court in Kuala Lumpur on Friday (Sept 22) on charges of stalking a female newsreader at her workplace and on social media last week.

Muhammad Azhari @ Azari Abd Rahman, 55, was accused of stalking Ainaa Kamalia Jamaludin, 31, by sending messages on social media and repeatedly going to her workplace at Awesome TV on Sept 17.

00:21 He was charged under Section 507A of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of three years or a fine or both upon conviction.
00:30 After the charges were read out in court, the accused kept saying he only wanted to meet the victim.
00:35 Prosecuting officer ASP Muhammad Sapri Yaakob offered bail at RM3,000 with one surety.
00:42 However, the accused's lawyer, Muhammad Zaidi Uthman, said his client's family was unable to pose bail and requested that Muhammad Azhari to be sent to hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
00:54 He said his client was registered at HKL's department of psychiatry but did not go for treatment.
01:00 Muhammad Sapri did not object to the application. The court denied bail and set October 6 to obtain records on the accused's mental health.
