00:58He loved us before the world was ever born.

01:04His love is eternal.
01:06The interesting thing about knowing God is to realize that God has always loved us, and it's just the most wonderful thing when we discover that, because then we can start loving Him back.
01:16He not only has loved us from the beginning, He always has.
01:45But He will love us forever, He always will.
01:48And nothing we can ever do can keep that from happening.

03:50God loves you now, but here's some better news.
04:01He always has loved you, even before you were born.
04:06Even before the world was born, he has loved you from the very foundation of time.
04:13Before the world began, he set his love upon you and upon me.
04:18Let me tell you what the Bible says about God's relationship with you before you were ever born.
04:28If you have your Bible open to Psalm 139, let me read verses 15 and 16 of that Psalm.
04:36Here is David speaking.
04:38These verses tell us that before you were born, God knew your identity.
05:07David uses the term me to refer to himself before he was born.
05:16It is important to note that in verse 16, you have the only word in the Hebrew Bible for the word embryo.
05:23It's the word that's translated by these words, being yet unformed.
05:27As God was forming you, as he was forming me, he was loving you.
05:37With his unmatched poetic eloquence, the psalmist David writes about this father who knits us together in the womb,
05:46numbering the hairs on our heads as well as the days of our lives.
05:50We also learn that in his infinite wisdom and power, even as God designs us for our days,
05:58he designs our days for us, writing them in his book before any of them come to pass.
06:07In Jeremiah chapter 1 and verse 5, God spoke these words to his prophet,
06:12Before I formed you in the womb, God says, I knew you.
06:26God knew our identity before we were born, before we were ever formed.
06:33God loved us before we were born.
06:37Not only does he know our identity, but these passages we're reading in Psalm 139 teach us
06:45that before we were born, God knew our complexity.
06:49Notice verses 13 and 14 in this psalm.
06:51For you formed my inward parts, you covered me in my mother's womb.
06:58I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
07:03Indeed, marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well.
07:09This is the work of our creator God, who has put us together in the words of David,
07:17fearfully and wonderfully.
07:21The human body, which is studied now more than ever before,
07:24is the most marvelous organism that ever has been or ever will be.
07:31Back in 2010, there was a presentation entitled,
07:37Conception to Birth, Visualized.
07:40It was produced by Alexander Ciaris,
07:45a mathematician, chief of scientific visualization at Yale.
07:50He shared some of the most incredible images
07:54of a child's development in the womb.
07:56As you watch the video, you could literally see never-before-images like
08:02the first cell division,
08:06the development of the heart at only 25 days,
08:11the development of arms and hands at only 32 days,
08:17the development of retina, nose, eyes at 52 days.
08:21Clearly blown away by what he has seen in his work,
08:26which, by the way, won him the Nobel Prize.
08:30Ciaris concluded his talk with these words.
08:32He said,
08:33"'The complexity of these things,
08:36the mathematical model of how these things are indeed done,
08:40are beyond human comprehension.
08:43Even though I am a mathematician,
08:44I look at this with the marvel of how did these instruction sets
08:49build that which is us.'"
08:53And then he thought,
08:54"'It's a mystery.
08:56It's magic.
08:58It's divinity.'"
09:00He got it right the third time.
09:04"'Our creator, men and women,
09:07is an artist of infinite majesty.
09:10He is a craftsman of breathtaking detail,
09:13and all that he does is driven and guided
09:16by his infinite love for you and for me.'"
09:19Before you were born, God knew your identity.
09:24Before you were born, he knew your complexity.
09:26And before you were born, he knew your individuality.
09:30Notice what it says in verse 16 of Psalm 139.
09:34"'Your eyes saw my substance being yet unformed,
09:39and in your book they were all written,
09:41"'The days fashioned for me,
09:44when as yet there were none of them.'"
09:48Here we strike a blow to those who want us to believe
09:54that there is no such thing as an individual person in the womb.
09:59God creates us.
10:01You say, no, God had nothing to do with it.
10:03Yes, he has everything to do with it.
10:06Before you were formed, in the womb of your mother,
10:11God saw you.
10:13He loved you.
10:14He knew you.
10:16And science strongly supports the idea
10:19of genuine life in the womb.
10:21Listen carefully.
10:22This is very important information
10:24for where we are in our culture today.
10:28Professor Micheline Matthews Roth
10:30of Harvard University Medical School says,
10:34"'It is scientifically correct to say
10:37that an individual human life begins at conception.'"
10:41Dr. Watson Bowes of the University of Colorado Medical School
10:46has stated,
10:47"'The beginning of a single human life
10:49is from biological point of view
10:51a simple and straightforward matter.
10:54The beginning is conception.'"
10:55In fact, you see, physicians and biologists
10:59and other scientists agree
11:00that conception marks the beginning
11:02of the life of a human being,
11:05a being that is alive
11:06and is a member of the human species.
11:09There is overwhelming agreement on this point
11:11in countless medical, biological,
11:14and scientific writings.
11:17The scientific evidence is overwhelming,
11:19but once again,
11:20if you consider the place of God in this,
11:22the argument is settled with absolute authority.
11:25God loved you before you ever were made.
11:29He loved you as he prepared you for this world
11:32and the beauty of human pregnancy,
11:34and all along he had a life
11:36and a purpose prepared just for you.
11:39You say,
11:40"'That's so hard for me to comprehend, Pastor,
11:42because I feel so insignificant in this world,
11:45and there are so many people,
11:46and you're saying,
11:47"'God actually knew me and cares about me.'"
11:49And if you struggle with that, you should,
11:54because we all do.
11:56But the only reason we struggle with that
11:58is because we cannot wrap our arms
12:00and our minds around
12:02the magnificence of Almighty God,
12:05who is so infinite and so majestic
12:07that it is possible for him
12:10to know you and love you and care about you
12:13as if you were the only person for him to care about.
12:18We know nothing about that.
12:19Our capacity to love.
12:20I remember when our first grandchild was born,
12:24I loved him so much,
12:25and I said to Donna,
12:26"'I don't think we can have any more
12:28"'cause there's no love left in my heart.
12:30"'I've given it all to this one.'"
12:32And then we've had more.
12:36And you know what?
12:37Your love multiplies with the children, doesn't it?
12:41You love them all in a separate way.
12:44But God loves all of us
12:46with a love far more magnificent
12:48than the love I had for David Todd
12:50when he was born
12:51or for my own children when they were born.
12:55He loves us individually.
12:57He loves us magnificently.
12:58He loves us knowingly.
13:01Jeremiah chapter 1, verse 5,
13:05tells us that not only does he know our identity
13:08and our complexity and our individuality,
13:11but he knows our destiny.
13:13Notice what he says in verse 5.
13:15"'Before I formed you in the womb,
13:17"'I knew you.
13:19"'And before you were born,
13:20"'I sanctified you.
13:22"'I ordained you a prophet
13:24"'to the nations.'"
13:25And I wrote down in my Bible
13:27from that little verse
13:28that God said four things in that one verse.
13:30He said,
13:31"'I formed you,
13:33"'I knew you,
13:34"'I sanctified you,
13:36"'and I ordained you.'"
13:38Jeremiah,
13:40before he was ever a being,
13:44before he was ever formed,
13:46God knew him.
13:47Before he was ever born,
13:49God sanctified him.
13:50Before he ever came out of the womb,
13:52God had already determined
13:53that he was going to be his prophet,
13:56just as he did with Jeremiah.
13:59God treasures the moments
14:00in which he sees us grow
14:02and become closer to the people
14:04he has designed us to be.
14:06For God has a plan for your life and for mine.
14:08It predates our birth.
14:10It predates our actual being formed in the womb.
14:14God created us for a special purpose.
14:18And I think that's one of the reasons
14:19why we're so hell-bent on finding out what it is.
14:22Listen, the question I'm asked more
14:24than any other question as a pastor is,
14:26how can I know the will of God for my life?
14:29In other words,
14:29how can I figure out what it is
14:31that God planned for me to do?
14:33I know some people who treat that very cavalierly.
14:36They say,
14:37well, you know,
14:37God doesn't have any one plan for any.
14:39He's got to, you know,
14:40just find some place and get working.
14:42You know,
14:42that's kind of how they look at it.
14:44But I believe God does have a plan for your life.
14:46And if you want to know how you can find it out,
14:49let me give you the simplest,
14:51the simplest way I know.
14:53And this is going to seem to you like
14:55understating the case.
14:57But listen carefully.
14:59Do you know how to know what God wants you to do,
15:02what he created you to do?
15:03You want to really know how to find that out?
15:06Get yourself in a place where you can say
15:08without any conditions,
15:10Lord God,
15:10whatever it is that you created me to be,
15:12I'm willing to be that person.
15:15I will do that.
15:16Don't say,
15:17Lord God,
15:17could you show me what your plan is?
15:19And I'd like to kind of measure it
15:20against some of the plans I got for myself
15:22and we'll check this thing out.
15:23Lord,
15:24we'll vote on it,
15:25you know?
15:26No, no,
15:27you'll never find the will of God like that.
15:28The Bible says,
15:29if you will do his will,
15:30you can know his will.
15:32We try to make this thing so complicated
15:34and we jump over the most simple thing of all.
15:36And that is,
15:37God is not going to reveal his path to you
15:39until you come to the place where you say,
15:42Lord God,
15:42I'm willing to do what you've created me to do.
15:47And then watch out
15:48because I want to tell you something
15:50that I've discovered.
15:51God's plan for you from eternity past
15:53is greater than anything
15:55you could ever think up for yourself.
15:58He has a plan for your life
16:01that is greater than any plan
16:04you could give for yourself.
16:08Before you were born,
16:09God knew your identity.
16:10Before you were born,
16:13God knew your complexity.
16:15Before you were born,
16:16God knew your individuality.
16:18Before you were born,
16:19God knew your destiny.
16:20And before you were born,
16:22God knew your possibility.
16:26Back in the book of Genesis,
16:27when the whole creative process began
16:29and we get to the creation of humanity,
16:31I want you to read these verses with me.
16:34Let's read them together off the screen.
16:35And then God said,
16:36let us make man in our image
16:38according to our likeness.
16:40So, God created man in his own image.
16:43In the image of God,
16:44he created him.
16:45Male and female,
16:46he created them.
16:47The Bible says that we are created
16:49in the image of God.
16:53Warren Wiersbe once wrote
16:54that there was a divine conference
16:56before the world began
16:58between the members of the Trinity
17:00as to how man should be.
17:03And they decided together
17:04in conference with one another
17:06that man should be created
17:08after the image of God.
17:11Now, when we think about that
17:12in human terms,
17:13we say, okay,
17:14he looks like his father.
17:15And we compare physical traits
17:17with the physical traits of the father.
17:19But of course, as you know,
17:21Almighty God doesn't have a physical being.
17:23God is a spirit.
17:25So, what in the world does it mean
17:26that we have been created
17:27in the image of Almighty God?
17:29It means that we bear his character,
17:32his nature.
17:33We are made as a special reflection
17:35of who God is.
17:37We are constantly echoing his identity
17:39in a smaller way.
17:41When we work, for instance,
17:43it reflects God's work.
17:45When we love,
17:46it reflects how God loves us.
17:49And everything that we do in our lives
17:52as humans reflects some part
17:54of who God is.
17:56When we have dominion over the earth,
17:58we reflect God's dominion over the earth.
18:02And that is why we feel guilt
18:04and why we feel love,
18:06why we feel genuine and complex emotions.
18:09As flawed as we are,
18:10we are the image and glory of the father.
18:14And that's also why,
18:16until we get in sync with him,
18:18until we get connected with him,
18:20we can never, ever feel like
18:22we're the people we ought to be.
18:24So many have said that God created us
18:27with a God-shaped vacuum in our heart.
18:31And until we put God
18:32in the proper place in our life,
18:34this image of God in us
18:36is flawed and broken
18:37and it can't ever be realized.
18:39That's why there's such a hunger
18:41and a thirst and a craving
18:43after meaning in our world today.
18:45Why people fill their lives
18:47with drugs and alcohol
18:48and promiscuity and popularity
18:50and all the things that you see
18:52rampant around us,
18:54they're trying to find some way
18:55to fill up the ache
18:57in the hole in their heart.
19:00And the only one who can ever do that
19:02is the God who made them
19:04in his own image.
19:07He's the only one.
19:09And the only way you can connect
19:11with that God
19:12is through his son, Jesus Christ,
19:14who died on the cross
19:15for your sin and for mine.
19:18That's how God feels about you and me.
19:22Looking through the window of time,
19:26all of his creation is good.
19:29Yes, very good.
19:31There are no exceptions.
19:35When God saw you
19:36through the window of time,
19:38he said, it's good, very good.
19:42He loved you before you came on the scene.
19:46So when you were born,
19:48he rejoiced.
19:50And I need to tell you today
19:52that he feels that way
19:53about every child,
19:54about children who are born with defects,
19:59children who are born
20:00that aren't going to be
20:02what we would consider to be normal.
20:06With God, there is no difference.
20:10Every child with Almighty God
20:13is a child that he set his love upon
20:16before they were ever conceived.
20:20There is no such thing
20:21as a child who is not worthy to live.
20:26I want so much for all these messages
20:29on the love of God to be so positive.
20:32And it is positive to know
20:33that God loves you.
20:35He always has and he always will.
20:37It's positive to know
20:38that he loved you before you were born.
20:39But I know that someone's here today,
20:42maybe someone who came to Christ recently,
20:44and in your past,
20:46there is this experience.
20:49Then you feel some guilt about it,
20:50and maybe you feel like,
20:51oh, I wish I hadn't come to church today.
20:55Let me tell you this.
20:57You cannot do anything
20:58that God will not forgive.
21:00And if you ask him to forgive you,
21:02he will,
21:02but you need to do that.
21:03And then you need to accept his forgiveness
21:07because God is not the kind of God who says,
21:11oh, yes, I will forgive you,
21:12but I won't forget.
21:13That's how we forgive, right?
21:15He doesn't forgive like that.
21:17When God forgives,
21:18let me tell you what the Bible says.
21:19He casts it in the deepest sea.
21:22He separates it from himself
21:24as far as the east is from the west.
21:27God forgives absolutely completely.
21:30If you've asked him for forgiveness,
21:32he has forgiven you.
21:34Don't tell me that you can't forgive yourself
21:36because that means you think
21:37you have a higher standard than God does.
21:41No, no, if God has forgiven you,
21:42you are forgiven, amen?
21:45Now, accept that.
21:47One last thing before I close my Bible
21:50and we close this session.
21:52Before you were born,
21:54God knew your legacy.
21:55If God sees all of time, and he does,
21:59then he sees what we cannot yet see.
22:03He sees beyond our lives
22:05to the eternal impact we are going to have on others.
22:09Our vision is hazy.
22:11We always fall for the illusion
22:13that we have the future all figured out.
22:15We keep thinking it will be just like the past
22:18and the present, but it never is.
22:20The whole world is in the hands of the Almighty.
22:25And when we come into this world,
22:27we come into this world with an incredible possibility
22:30that goes way out into the future.
22:33When I was born to my mother and father,
22:37I was just the first son in the family.
22:45But I've lived my whole life,
22:47and I've fathered four children
22:50who have now given us grandchildren.
22:53And so, from that little child that was in my mother's womb
22:59to where I am today and to my children today
23:02and to their children and their children's children,
23:04all of the future and the legacy of one person
23:08goes out into the future,
23:12and the incredible possibility of it is enormous.
23:18When you feel unloved,
23:19when you feel like you're not significant,
23:20when you feel like maybe God made a mistake
23:23letting you come into this world,
23:25I want you to remember this thing, my friend.
23:28Before you were ever conceived, God loved you.
23:31In the womb of your mother, God loved you.
23:34When you were born, God loved you.
23:35As a child, God loves you.
23:38God loves you now.
23:39He always has.
23:40He always will.
23:41He loves not only you,
23:43but all of those who will come from you.
23:45And he has created you to be a beautiful part
23:48of the master tapestry of his love.
23:52So rejoice in your identity.
23:56If David could say in this incredible psalm,
24:01maybe he even looked at the mirror before he said it.
24:06He said, Lord God,
24:07I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
24:13So you go home today, will you?
24:15Stand in front of the mirror
24:17where you usually feel really bad.
24:23Stand in front of that mirror
24:25and with a great sense of confidence,
24:27stretch your arms out and say,
24:29Lord God, I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
24:33And give him praise that God has preserved you,
24:38that he's given you help in your life.
24:40Amen.
