00:01Ten signs Jesus isn't enough for you, even though He is.
00:07You've stopped being amazed by Him.
00:10Your time with Jesus feels more like a check-in than a relationship.
00:15What used to move you spiritually doesn't anymore, and you aren't sure why.
00:22You trust Jesus with eternity, but not with today.
00:27Your spiritual life is getting busier, but not deeper.
00:33You're more focused on what Jesus hasn't done for you than what He already did.
00:40Your walk with Jesus feels like it's stuck on repeat.
00:45Minor stress feels like a full-blown crisis.
00:50You don't expect Jesus to do anything big in your life.
00:55You're no longer living like Jesus could return at any time.
01:01Stop living like He's not enough.
01:05He is.
01:07Jesus is enough.
01:12Coming up today on Turning Point.
01:14God sent His Son down here to be born of a virgin, born into humanity, taking upon Himself flesh.
01:23And literally, when Jesus Christ was on this earth, men and women, He was God walking around in a body.
01:31If you wanted to know who God was, you looked at Jesus, and Jesus was the declaration of God to
01:37all of us.
01:39Deep roots, strong branches, abundant leaves.
01:43This is the flourishing life God designed for you.
01:46A life firmly planted, growing strong, and unshakable through any storm.
01:52In his new book, Five Psalms for a Flourishing Life, Dr. David Jeremiah invites you to step out of a
01:58faith that feels like just getting by,
02:00and into an active, growing faith rooted in the unchanging truth of God's Word.
02:05In this powerful study, Dr. Jeremiah explores five key psalms that have nourished God's people for generations.
02:12Psalms with the power to revive your soul and transform the places in your life that feel dry, barren, or
02:18stuck into meaningful growth in God.
02:20These aren't self-help strategies or positive thinking techniques.
02:24They are time-tested truths that have sustained God's people through millennia of both triumph and trial,
02:30teaching us how to sink our roots deep into eternal resources while bearing fruit that blesses the world around us.
02:36Dr. David Jeremiah will send you five psalms for a flourishing life in appreciation when you give a gift of
02:42any amount in support of this program.

03:03Never before in my lifetime as a pastor has the biblical portrait of the exalted Christ been so foreign to
03:16our culture.
03:17It happens in ways and in fashions that you don't recognize until you stop to think about what you've read
03:25and what you've heard and what you've seen.
03:26For instance, on television, he often appears on episodes of The Simpsons in South Park hardly ever in a good
03:34light.
03:35On the big screen, he's been the subject of The Da Vinci Code.
03:39Who could forget John Lennon's pronouncement that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus?
03:462010, Elton John provocatively stated that Jesus was a compassionate, superintelligent, gay man who understood human problems.
03:57These are just a few of the quotes and incidents that have driven me to determine it would be a
04:04good thing for us as a church to go through the book of Hebrews.
04:07Because in the book of Hebrews, this muddled picture of Jesus Christ is straightened out in no uncertain terms.
04:15The epistle to the book of Hebrews is undoubtedly one of the greatest and most important books in all of
04:22the New Testament.
04:23From a personal perspective, Hebrews was written to a group of first century Christians who were in the danger of
04:30giving up.
04:31I think that's another reason why it's a good book for us because we live in such a culture where
04:35a lot of Christians are talking about giving up.
04:38And more importantly, from a theological perspective, this is the only book in the Bible that begins with the word
04:46God.
04:48How many of you know that all the problems in the world are resolved for everyone in Genesis 1-1
04:54if you believe that it really is true?
04:56In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
05:00If God can create the heaven and the earth, there is not anything he cannot do.
05:05And if you begin where you should begin in Genesis 1-1 and you believe it, and you believe it
05:10as it's really meant to be believed,
05:12you have solved all the problems that come in life.
05:16In the beginning, God.
05:17And Hebrews begins with God.
05:21It begins by asserting this great simple fact of the Christian revelation that God has spoken in his word.
05:29And he has spoken through his son.
05:32And in Christ, God closed the greatest communication gap there ever was.
05:37And what is that gap?
05:38The gap between God and man.
05:41In Christ, he closed that gap.
05:45Now, like many Christians today,
05:47the people who received this letter first, the Hebrews, the Jewish Christians,
05:54were not aware of the treasure that they had in Jesus.
05:58I'm confident that there are many of us here in this room today
06:01who are not aware of the treasure that we have in Jesus.
06:06We struggle at such a level,
06:08and if we could only understand who Jesus is and how he wants to fill our lives,
06:13it would lift us all up to a new level of walking with God.
06:17Now, the more I study the book of Hebrews,
06:20the more I come back to these first three verses
06:23because I think these first three verses capture the entire meaning of the book
06:28and outline it for us going forward.
06:31So, let me just give you some things about Jesus
06:33that are in these first few verses.
06:36First of all, Christ is the final word from God.
06:42Notice what it says in verse 1.
06:44God, who at various times and in various ways
06:48spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets.
06:55This verse describes how God spoke to people before Christ came.
07:01Do you know how God spoke to people before Christ came?
07:04He spoke to them in fragments.
07:07That's true.
07:08He spoke to them in fragments.
07:10Notice it, in various times and in various ways,
07:13God spoke by the prophets to the fathers.
07:17In various times, it says, he spoke.
07:21He spoke a little to Adam.
07:23He spoke a little to Noah.
07:25He spoke a little to Moses.
07:27He spoke a little to the prophets.
07:28But he never spoke at all to any one person.
07:31So, Adam had some of it.
07:33Noah had some of it.
07:34Moses had some of it.
07:36David had some of it.
07:37He spoke to them in fragments in various times.
07:41This is where we get the doctrine of progressive revelation
07:44that somehow through the Old Testament,
07:47God's revelatory process was growing from one revelation to the next.
07:52Yes, but no one ever had it all.
07:54It was all fragments.
07:56And he spoke in various ways.
07:59For instance, when God spoke in the Old Testament,
08:02he spoke to Moses at Sinai out of the thunderings and lightnings
08:08in the voice of a trumpet.
08:10At Horeb, he spoke to Elijah in a still, small voice.
08:14To Ezekiel, he revealed himself through visions.
08:18And through Daniel, he revealed himself through dreams.
08:21To Abraham, he appeared in human form.
08:24While to Jacob, he was an angelic visitor.
08:26Not only did God speak in prophecy, but he declared himself by the law
08:31and by warning and by exhortation and in type and in parable.
08:36It was the same word, the word of Jehovah,
08:39but it came in various ways.
08:40In the Old Testament, God spoke in fragments in various times
08:45and in various ways.
08:46And so, the Old Testament is sort of pieced together,
08:50and it's the revelation of God.
08:51But it's not final, it's fragmentary.
08:55But notice what it says in verse 2.
08:58But now, in these last days, God has spoken to us by his Son.
09:07In the Old Testament, we have the written word.
09:10In the New Testament, we have the written word.
09:12But in the New Testament, we have the written word,
09:14and it's trumped by the living word.
09:17In the New Testament, Jesus Christ is the message.
09:22In the person of the Lord Jesus Christ,
09:24God found a perfect vehicle for expression.
09:28He simply translated deity into humanity,
09:32or as John puts it, the Word became flesh.
09:35Say that with me.
09:36The Word became flesh.
09:39The Word, God, became flesh.
09:41God became a man.
09:44And so, when we come to the New Testament,
09:46God wants to communicate to us who he is.
09:49It's no longer the fragmentary messages
09:52of the prophets to the fathers.
09:54God gives us the incredible message of his own Son.
10:01When God spoke to men in Christ,
10:04he said everything that he had to say,
10:07which means he has said everything man needs to hear.
10:10In Jesus Christ, God has given us his final message.
10:17And God has said nothing beyond that.
10:20When Christ came, that was the final word.
10:23Christ was the final message from God.
10:25If you're looking for something beyond that,
10:27you will never find it,
10:28because the Bible says in these last days,
10:31God has spoken in his Son.
10:35In the beginning was the Word,
10:37and the Word was God, says the Scripture.
10:40And God, in his glory, came down to become flesh.
10:46And in the person of Jesus Christ, you know God.
10:49Somebody says, how can I know God?
10:51Very simple.
10:52Know Jesus.
10:53Because the Bible says Jesus came to declare God
10:57and to present himself,
10:58and we'll see that in a moment.
10:59So, Christ is the final word from God.
11:04Say that with me.
11:05Christ is the final word from God.
11:08Secondly, Christ is the future heir of all things.
11:11Notice verse 2.
11:12Whom he has appointed heir of all things.
11:16Many commentators believe this comes from Psalm chapter 2
11:21and verse 8.
11:22Ask of me, and I will give you the nations
11:25for your inheritance
11:26and the ends of the earth for your possession.
11:29The Bible teaches us that this earth
11:32and all that is here and all things
11:34ultimately belong to God,
11:37and God has given them to his Son,
11:39and he is the heir of all things.
11:42And one day, the world in its entirety
11:45will be turned over to him.
11:47He's coming back to enforce every clause in the will.
11:52In addition to his natural inheritance,
11:54which are the all things,
11:55the Bible tells us that you and I, as Christians,
11:58were part of his inheritance.
12:00Did you know that you're a part
12:01of the inheritance of Jesus?
12:03It says in Ephesians 1-18,
12:05the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.
12:10God is collecting through the salvation
12:13of men and women around the world.
12:15He's collecting this inheritance,
12:17which will be turned over to Jesus in the end days.
12:20We are his inheritance,
12:21and all things belong to him.
12:23So, how do we know how important Jesus is?
12:26First of all, he is God's final word.
12:29And secondly, he's God's future inheritance.
12:32Now, notice third, he's the first cause of creation.
12:35In verse 2,
12:37through whom he also made the worlds.
12:42John 1 says it this way,
12:44in the beginning was the Word.
12:46The Word is a word for Jesus.
12:49In the beginning was the Word,
12:50and the Word was with God,
12:52and the Word was God.
12:54He was in the beginning.
12:55All things were made through him,
12:57and without him nothing was made that was made.
13:01Who made the world?
13:03Well, God did, but how did he do it?
13:04The Bible says he delegated the creative process
13:07to his son, Jesus Christ.
13:11Colossians 1-15 says,
13:13he is the image of the invisible.
13:14Christ is the image of the invisible,
13:16the firstborn over all creation.
13:18Now, watch this.
13:19For by Christ, all things were created
13:22that are in heaven and that are in earth,
13:25visible and invisible,
13:26whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
13:29All things were created through him and for him.
13:35My friends, if we believe that God could create
13:38the heavens and the earth out of nothing,
13:41why do we have to explain how it was organized going forward
13:46through some kind of scientific method
13:49that cannot be proved
13:50because nobody was ever there to observe it?
13:53And the Bible simply says God did it.
13:55God created Adam with apparent age.
13:59You know, Adam wasn't created as a five-year-old boy.
14:02He was created as an adult man.
14:04So, do you think God could create the world
14:06with apparent age?
14:07Absolutely, God can do anything he wants.
14:10And when you decide that God is the author
14:13and finisher of your faith,
14:14that he's the creator of the universe,
14:16that through his son he created all of the worlds,
14:19why do you keep giving territory back to the enemy
14:22by letting them try to put their evolutionary nonsense
14:26into the creative gospel?
14:28I don't get it.
14:29I don't get it.
14:31And some good people are doing that,
14:34people that I respect.
14:36I do not have to be ashamed to stand on the Word of God
14:40and say, the whole thing is a miracle,
14:43the whole thing.
14:51God is the first cause through Jesus Christ.
14:54Christ is the first cause of creation.
14:57Now, here's where we've gone so far.
14:59Christ is the final Word from God.
15:02Christ is the future heir of all things.
15:06Christ is the first cause of creation.
15:09And number four, Christ is the fullness of the Godhead.
15:13Notice what it says.
15:14Who being the brightness of his glory
15:17and the express image of his person,
15:21Hebrews 1, 3.
15:22Who is Christ?
15:23There's the answer.
15:24He is the brightness of God's glory
15:27and the express image of God's person.
15:31Jesus Christ is the fullness of the Godhead.
15:34He is God walking around in a body.
15:37John 1, 18 says,
15:39No one has seen God at any time.
15:41The only begotten Son,
15:43who is in the bosom of the Father,
15:46has declared him.
15:48What does that mean?
15:49You can't see God.
15:50He's a spirit.
15:51So, how do you understand a spirit?
15:53None of us here,
15:54well, if you know a spirit,
15:56I'll talk with you afterwards,
15:57but most of us don't know spirits.
16:00And so, how do you know God?
16:02The only way you can know God
16:03is if God somehow puts himself
16:04into a form that we comprehend.
16:07And what is that form?
16:08It's humanity.
16:09So, God sent his Son down here
16:11to be born of a virgin,
16:14born into humanity,
16:16taking upon himself flesh.
16:18And literally, when Jesus Christ
16:21was on this earth, men and women,
16:22he was God walking around in a body.
16:26If you wanted to know who God was,
16:28you looked at Jesus,
16:29and Jesus was the declaration of God
16:32to all of us.
16:33And that's why when our modern culture
16:36trashes him and pushes him off to the side
16:39and sets him among many teachers,
16:41they do away with the Christian gospel,
16:44whether they know it or not.
16:46And I'm here to tell you,
16:47we need to stand up and say,
16:49listen, I want to tell you about my Jesus.
16:51My Jesus is the Son of God.
16:55He is God the Son.
16:57He is God walking around in a body.
17:02He's the final word from God.
17:03He's the future of all things.
17:05He's the first cause of creation.
17:07He's the fullness of the Godhead.
17:09Notice number five,
17:11he's the facilitator of all things.
17:13And upholding all things by the word of his power.
17:17I haven't time to spend much space here on this thought,
17:21but here's the thought.
17:23Colossians 1.17 says it best.
17:26He is before all things,
17:28and in him all things consist.
17:32He who was before history,
17:34at the beginning of history,
17:35who will be at the end of history,
17:37is now in the middle of history,
17:39holding everything together.
17:42Why is it that the planets don't fly off into their own orbit?
17:45Why is it that this world doesn't just come totally unglued?
17:49Because Almighty God has put his Son, Jesus Christ,
17:52in charge of upholding all things by the word of his power.
17:55And by him, everything consists.
17:58From the beginning of time,
17:59there has never been a moment
18:01when Jesus has abdicated that responsibility.
18:03Or if he had, we would not be sitting here today.
18:07He is the one who created it all.
18:09He is the one who will inherit it all.
18:11And he's the one who holds it all together.
18:13He is the facilitator of all things.
18:16My most exciting point is right ahead.
18:21Number six, he is the forgiveness of our sins.
18:25He's the final word from God.
18:27He's the future of all things.
18:29He's the first cause of creation.
18:30He's the fullness of the Godhead.
18:32He's the facilitator of all things.
18:34And he's the forgiveness of our sins.
18:37Notice, when he had by himself purged our sins.
18:44You know, I'm beginning to notice
18:47as I've studied the Bible all these years
18:48how often things are set up
18:51so that if we don't read it carefully, we miss the impact.
18:54You remember in John 13,
18:55where we have the story of Jesus washing the feet of the disciples?
18:59And you read that story,
19:01and you just sort of take it for granted.
19:02But if you don't read the front part of it,
19:03you don't get it.
19:04Because in the beginning of John 13,
19:06in the passage where Jesus washes the disciples' feet,
19:09it says this,
19:10having been given all authority from God,
19:13having come from God,
19:15and going back to God,
19:17Jesus took a towel and wrapped it upon himself
19:20and washed the disciples' feet.
19:22What was the purpose of that?
19:23To help us understand the incredible impact of what he did.
19:26He had been given all authority from God.
19:29He was going back to God.
19:31He had come from God.
19:32And it was this one with all authority
19:34who came from God and was going to God.
19:37It was this one who washed the feet of the disciples.
19:43Unless you see it in that context,
19:44you don't really get what this is all about.
19:46Now watch, the same thing is going on here.
19:49Christ, who is the creator of all things,
19:53who is the last word from God,
19:55who will inherit all things,
19:57who facilitates all things,
19:58this very Christ, by himself,
20:02purged us from our sins.
20:05Wow.
20:07Can you fathom it?
20:09That the God who created this world,
20:11the God who created you and me,
20:14the God who holds this world together,
20:16the God to whom all will be ultimately given,
20:20that this very God,
20:21notice how careful the language is,
20:23who by himself purged us from our sins.
20:27He didn't send the angels to do it.
20:29He didn't make it a spirit thing through the Holy Spirit.
20:33The Bible says he did it himself.
20:37In the Old Testament,
20:38the purging of sins was a never-ending process.
20:42But Jesus Christ put an end to that at the cross.
20:45Hebrews 9, 25 and 26 says,
20:47not that he should offer himself often
20:50as the high priest enters the most holy place
20:53every year with the blood of another.
20:55He then would have had to suffer often
20:58since the foundation of the world.
20:59But now, listen to this,
21:01now once at the end of the ages,
21:03he has appeared,
21:05appeared once to put away sin
21:08by the sacrifice of himself.
21:09That's what Jesus did on the cross.
21:12He did away with all of the animal sacrifices,
21:15all of the stuff that had to happen
21:17in order for a person to feel forgiven.
21:19The Bible says,
21:20now once at the end of the age,
21:22he has sacrificed himself and he put away sin.
21:25For those who will put their trust in him,
21:27sin will never be an issue again.
21:31By himself, he is the forgiveness of our sins.
21:34And then finally,
21:35and this is,
21:37this couldn't be any better organized
21:39by the writer of Hebrews.
21:41He's the final word from God.
21:43He's the future of all things.
21:45He's the first cause of creation.
21:46He's the fullness of the Godhead.
21:48He's the facilitator of all things.
21:50He's the forgiveness of our sins.
21:53And hallelujah,
21:54he's the finisher of our faith.
21:56Notice what it says.
21:58And he sat down
21:59at the right hand of the majesty on high.
22:03You say, well, what's that?
22:04He sat down because he was tired.
22:05I mean, purging the sins of the whole world
22:07would be a heavy task.
22:09No, no.
22:10Let me tell you how this fits into Hebrews.
22:13In the tabernacle,
22:16the priest never sat down.
22:19In the tabernacle, there wasn't any chair.
22:23There was a table.
22:24There was a lampstand.
22:25There was a laver.
22:26There was an altar.
22:27But there was no chair.
22:29Because you see,
22:30if you were an Old Testament high priest,
22:32your work was never done.
22:35But when Christ entered the Holy of Holies in heaven,
22:39he sat down.
22:41When Christ paid the price for our sins on the cross,
22:44it truly was the expression of his own voice on the cross
22:48when he cried out,
22:50it is finished.
22:54And he went to heaven.
22:56The work's all done.
22:58And he sat down at the right hand of the majesty,
23:02never to have to arise again
23:04to deal with the sin of the world.
23:08So, we read in Hebrews chapter 12 and verse 2,
23:11looking unto Jesus,
23:12the author and finisher of our faith,
23:14who for the joy that was set before him
23:16endured the cross,
23:18despising the shame,
23:19and has sat down
23:21at the right hand
23:23of the throne of God.
23:26I don't know if you pick this up today,
23:30but our Jesus is awesome.
23:33He's awesome.
23:35And today, if you've come to this service
23:37and you don't know him,
23:39I want to tell you how special it is
23:42to have a personal relationship
23:44with the one I've been talking about today.
23:47And I want to tell you
23:48that there's not anyone in this room,
23:50not one person in this room
23:51who cannot have that relationship
23:53if you will do it.
23:54You say, what do I have to do?
23:55You have to decide.
23:57You have to decide.
23:58You want a relationship with Jesus Christ.
24:00God has done all the work.
24:02He's paid all the penalty.
24:03Jesus himself purged your sins.
24:06And the only thing that is left for you to do
24:09is to acknowledge that what he did was for you.
24:13Have you believed in Jesus
24:14to take away your own sin
24:16and have you asked him to be your savior?
24:18You don't need to just believe about Jesus.
24:20You need to believe in Jesus.
24:22You need to accept him as your savior.
24:25Invite him to come into your heart
24:26and forgive your sin
24:27and say, Lord Jesus,
24:29thank you for purging my sin on the cross.
24:31I accept what you did for me
24:35and I confess my sin
24:37and ask for your forgiveness.
24:38And when you do that,
24:40he wipes the slate clean.
24:42He gives you a new heart.
24:43The Bible even says
24:45he gives you his righteousness
24:46in the place of your sin.
24:48And whenever I preach this message
24:50and I ask people to respond
24:52and I know that there are people in the audience
24:54who have not yet received Christ,
24:56I can't comprehend
24:57why anybody would not want to do that.
24:59Why anybody would not want to know
25:01this one of whom I have spoken
25:03and make him their own personal savior and Lord.
25:06So I'm going to ask you to do that today.
25:08Will you accept him as your savior?
25:10Will you acknowledge him as your Lord?
25:12Will you give him your heart
25:13and will you begin to walk with him
25:16in a relationship
25:18that ultimately puts you
25:19in fellowship with God?
25:29Thank you for watching Turning Point.
