00:00 Good afternoon, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor for Sussex Newspapers. Real pleasure
00:06 to speak to Nis Pearson, who is heading our way to mark 40 years in the business now.
00:11 How does that feel? That's a real achievement to have done so much in the business over so long,
00:17 isn't it? Absolutely sweetheart. I think my dad's legacy that he has with Buster Pearson,
00:25 he played on the, like I said, on the Midnight Hour tour with Wilson Pickett and Stedman Decker
00:30 and a lot of 60s artists. And an artist in his own right, he brought all of his
00:36 legacy to our table. So he knew exactly where he was taking five stars. So I think he has
00:44 100% claim in our legacy for 40 years. So the point is you grew up absolutely
00:52 surrounded by music then. You weren't really going to do anything else, were you?
00:55 I wasn't, you know, I was going to become a nurse. I loved biology at school.
01:00 Oh really?
01:01 Yeah, yeah. I used to look at mummy's nursing books and, you know, look at all of the
01:07 remedies and things in her book. So it was either nurse or music.
01:14 How come the music won then? What happened?
01:18 I think that's more of my route. I used to play guitar in assembly. And then he always used to
01:25 bring music home. He used to bring home these huge boxes of vinyls from distributing records.
01:32 And we used to just, you know, look through them and play them. Chris Begale, Randy Crawford,
01:40 Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson and the Jacksons were my favorites. Yeah, yeah. So I think,
01:46 I think things naturally take their natural course. And that's where I think that all came.
01:52 There was pure natural progression when you started playing with the group at the age of 14,
01:57 15. And you're saying a lovely thing, you even needed a note from your head teacher
02:02 to go and perform on TV.
02:03 I did, I did. Yeah, I had to take it to the headmistress to do the Royal Variety and talk
02:13 to the boss.
02:15 There's no way the headmistress was going to say no, was there?
02:17 No.
02:19 And then you did them all, didn't you? Wogan and Russell Harty and Pebble Mill at one.
02:26 That must have been great.
02:28 Yeah. Oh gosh, yeah. It was magnificent. I can't wait to get started again. I know many of those
02:34 programs aren't running anymore, but I mean, I've been doing, yeah, yes. I've been doing
02:43 Breakfast and I've been doing a lot of TV and press and radio right now. And the feeling is
02:48 back again, you know, and I'm loving it. I'm totally loving it and living in the moment.
02:53 Absolutely. And thinking about the next album for next year.
02:58 Yes. Yes. My new album is called Free Queen C and it will be out spring 2024. And free means
03:08 the queen is free and she can see, she's aware, she's connected. And that's what I'm doing. I'm
03:15 working with the energy. Yeah.
03:17 And you're saying the songs are just coming to you, coming down to you.
03:21 They are. Yes, Phil, straight from the heavens. God is great. They're coming straight from the
03:27 heavens, right down into my laptop. I'm sending it out to my guys, my bass, my drums, my keys,
03:34 my guitarist, and they're coming back, my father's coming back and I'm getting it mixed by my mixer
03:38 guy. And strings.
03:40 Sounds like the perfect process. And that will be next year, the album. But in the meantime,
03:45 you're playing a number of dates, including Bognor Regis.
03:48 Yes. And September 30th. Yeah. September 30th, we're doing our 40th anniversary show,
03:56 extended 40th anniversary show at Pisa Express Live in Holborn. So get your tickets. There should
04:05 be a few left. There should be a few left, but it's going to be an amazing night, you guys.
04:10 Brilliant. Well, congratulations on the anniversary and the forthcoming album and the dates.
04:15 Really lovely to speak to you. Thank you for your time.
04:18 You too. Thank you. Thank you for having me, sweetie.
