00:00 Got it.
00:03 Good afternoon, my name is Phil Huot, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers.
00:06 Lovely, really lovely to speak to Tom Allen this afternoon, and you are, well, well into
00:11 a massive monumental tour, and you're going to have loads of dates coming up in our area
00:15 ports in Southampton and Brighton.
00:18 How have you enjoyed this tour?
00:19 You've been here for a long time, haven't you?
00:22 I've been having a lovely time.
00:23 I like going to all the different places, and often going to, you know, towns and cities
00:28 that I wouldn't go to ordinarily, perhaps.
00:31 I like that, and I like kind of spending time in a place and having, I don't know, yeah,
00:38 having the, having space to, you know, explore the local cafes, seeing what their pain au
00:44 chocolat are like, and saying hello to people as I go.
00:48 That sounds very appealing.
00:49 As for the content of the show, you're talking about the fact that you are, to agree, reluctantly
00:55 growing up, aren't you?
00:56 Moving out of the family home.
00:57 I'm afraid.
00:58 Yes, you would think that losing my hair and moving out of home, I would have realised
01:04 it sooner, but yes, it's drawn on me that I've now moved out of home, I've got a partner,
01:10 and I'm 40, means that I probably am, I have to accept the fact that I'm an adult.
01:15 And I think even though I've seemed, in my mind, I've always felt like I'm about 46 years
01:19 old, I've always been a bit trepidatious, I think, of just actually embracing the real
01:23 world.
01:24 I think of myself being a grown up, and going, well, this is my life.
01:28 This is what life is now.
01:30 It is, and life is sort of dealing with, you know, the mould you get around the shower
01:36 in the bathroom, and how you get, how are you going to deal with that?
01:39 I have to be responsible for dealing with, you know, I have to have a squidcher that
01:43 I use in the shower now, which I never used to bother with.
01:46 It wasn't my bathroom, it was my parents' bathroom.
01:48 And that's good, that's fun, is it?
01:51 Well, you know, I guess that's what life is all about, isn't it?
01:54 Having a clean bathroom.
01:55 You've got it absolutely right, because I remember being so fed up with being 40, not
02:01 many years ago, but you have taken it in your stride, and you're enjoying the fact, aren't
02:06 you?
02:07 I have, and I am.
02:08 And I like the fact that you can, I feel like the older you get, the more you can be yourself.
02:15 And I like, I think that's a great privilege.
02:18 I look forward to being quite grumpy.
02:19 I mean, I'm already a bit grumpy.
02:21 I don't like, I don't like children screaming in restaurants, and I don't like people playing
02:27 music loudly.
02:28 So I'm sort of already kind of in that kind of pensioner.
02:31 You are heading that way nicely.
02:33 Now, I'm conscious you've got other interviews you need to do, so I will let you go.
02:38 But really lovely to speak to you, and good luck with the remainder of the tour, particularly
02:42 those in your area.
02:43 Thank you ever so much.
