00:00 The Australian education union's SA branch is asking for 20% increase over the next three
00:07 years.
00:08 So that breakdown looks like 8.6% in the first year, then 5.5% over the next two years.
00:13 The government has responded with an offer of 3% over the next three years.
00:18 But we've heard from the union that they find that offer quite insulting.
00:22 That's what the, that's those were actually the words that they used.
00:25 So in recent ballots, we've seen that 80% of union members actually have voted to walk
00:31 off the job.
00:32 And that's what we're going to see happening tomorrow.
00:34 There's going to be a teacher strike right across SA.
00:36 We know that two thirds of South Australian schools will remain open, but 167 have confirmed
00:43 that they will close and the remaining 152 will remain open, but they will be running
00:47 modified programs.
00:49 There is a list of school closures on the school, the Department of Education's website
00:53 for any parents that want to see how their child will be affected.
00:56 Okay.
00:57 So Gladys, tell us about the tram strike.
01:00 Yes.
01:02 So there'll also be a tram strike here in Adelaide as well.
01:04 That strike is going to be running from 4.45 in the morning, right through to 7.45.
01:09 And while it's expected to end at 7.45, we understand that they don't expect trams to
01:14 start up again until between 8.30 to 9.00 AM.
01:18 And so we know that all trams will be affected, but there'll also be substitute buses that
01:22 will be available during that strike.
01:24 Now what we're hearing from rail, tram and bus union members is they're asking for a
01:29 7% increase over the next three years.
01:31 But what they've been offered instead is a 5% increase in the first year and a 3% increase
01:37 in the following two years.
01:38 Now we know branch organizers say they've been in negotiations throughout the week,
01:42 but have made no progress and have decided to pursue a strike, industrial action instead.
