00:00 Over a two year period, Peter Shin secretly recorded female patients he was examining
00:06 in his capacity as a surgeon.
00:09 The incidents took place at the Flinders Medical Centre, one of Adelaide's biggest hospitals,
00:14 as well as the Breast and Endocrine Centre in Adelaide's east.
00:18 But the recordings were exposed in August 2021 after a patient noticed a tissue box
00:24 with a hole in it that he had placed close to the examination.
00:28 The woman then reported the doctor and he was arrested after police seized more material
00:33 on his phone of 10 other victims.
00:36 The magistrate called Shin's offending "incredibly disturbing" and "particularly egregious"
00:41 where some victims said they can never trust a male doctor again.
00:45 Trusting a male doctor is a matter of choice for them.
00:49 So if they choose not to have male doctors, it's entirely up to them.
00:57 In deciding not to impose an immediate jail term, the magistrate said he took into account
01:02 Shin's early guilty plea and the fact that he'd lost his medical licence.
