Flooding and damaging wind will be possible with new storms that develop and track over part of the eastern United States.
Transcript
00:00 I'm Ariella Scalise and we've seen our fair share of heavy rain leading to flooding into the northeast this summer and looking at the 30 day rainfall.
00:08 Still a lot of areas into Pennsylvania into New York State to Maine into Massachusetts that are dealing with above average rainfall and that is why we could continue to see some flooding concerns with the saturated soil.
00:20 I think where some of the heaviest rain is going to set up as we head into tonight and into Friday is going to be into western Pennsylvania, northeastern parts of Ohio, even down through parts of Maryland and West Virginia.
00:31 You can see that in the yellow color.
00:33 So flooding definitely a concern when it comes to some complex of storms that will be moving through our Thursday night, but also the severe weather.
00:41 You notice the area in yellow, which includes southern parts of Michigan, northern parts of Ohio, that area that moderate risk, which means numerous severe thunderstorms are going to be possible.
00:50 I mentioned the flooding, but these storms could also have hail and we will have to watch out for isolated tornadoes.
00:56 Damaging wind gusts anywhere from 60 to 70 miles per hour, but we could see that accurate local storm max all the way up to 80 miles per hour.
01:03 So things really continue to get going throughout late this evening. Buffalo getting slammed with heavy rainfall and that continues to sink farther south into central PA.
01:11 Spots like Pittsburgh also going to get in on the heavy rain, the frequent lightning and the powerful winds moving on through.
01:17 A lot of this may come overnight into early on our Friday morning and that could cause some tricky travel from New York City to Philadelphia through D.C.
01:25 And then still lingering with the heavy rain and gusty winds into New England. So Portland and Boston even still by 9 o'clock on Friday could be dealing with these heavy thunderstorms continuing to move on through.
01:36 Then we take into the day on Saturday where another area that we will be watching into the northeast for thunderstorms continuing to move on through.
01:42 But you see another front to the north. So eventually some cooler temperatures will make a comeback and we could be talking about more severe weather as we do wrap up the week.
01:50 Charleston, West Virginia into Washington and Richmond heads up for a flash flooding, travel disruptions and some pretty powerful wind.
