00:01 Councillor Ryan Baden-Lumsden has just had his case mentioned in court.
00:07 He is the Division 7 Councillor for the Gold Coast City Council.
00:11 He was arrested at his family home in Arundel yesterday afternoon.
00:16 Police were called to the address just after three o'clock after reports of a disturbance.
00:22 When they arrived, they found a 58-year-old man unresponsive inside the home.
00:27 Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
00:33 That man is Mr Baden-Lumsden's stepfather, the long-term de facto partner of Mr Baden-Lumsden's
00:40 mother.
00:42 As I said, Mr Baden-Lumsden was arrested at the scene.
00:45 He was taken into custody by police wearing a blue forensic suit.
00:50 He spent the night assisting police with their inquiries and in the early hours of this morning,
00:56 he was charged with murder.
01:00 And has he entered a plea?
01:04 Well we did manage to speak very briefly with Mr Baden-Lumsden's lawyer on his way out of
01:10 court this morning.
01:12 Here's a little of what Jason Murakami had to say.
01:16 Look it's correct, he entered a plea of not guilty.
01:18 I can't say any more at this stage, but thank you very much for your interest.
01:21 Thank you very much.
01:22 Have you ever shown any respect for him this morning?
01:23 It would be inappropriate to comment further guys, I apologise.
01:25 Thank you.
01:26 Has the plea been made?
01:27 Yes, the plea's been made.
01:28 He's entered a plea of not guilty.
01:33 We expect Jeremy for a bail application to be made to the Queensland Supreme Court within
01:39 the next 7 to 14 days.
01:42 That case will obviously progress from there.
