00:00 A man who was severely burnt during a house fire here in Hawthorn on Brisbane East on
00:06 Saturday night has sadly died in hospital overnight.
00:11 You can see the damage to the home behind me here on 4th Street in Hawthorn.
00:17 The house is completely gutted and the two neighbouring properties have also been damaged.
00:24 The house on the right in particular has been badly damaged while the one on the left has
00:29 suffered a lot of water damage it seems.
00:32 Emergency crews were called here to the street on Saturday night around about 8 o'clock and
00:38 when they got here the house was fully ablaze.
00:42 The 66 year old man, Hugh Walker, he suffered severe burns in this fire.
00:47 He was rescued by neighbours who pulled him out of there and delivered first aid to him
00:53 but sadly he has passed away.
00:57 So there are reports that a woman inside the property, believed to be Hugh Walker's wife,
01:03 noticed that there was smoke coming out from the back of a dishwasher and perhaps that's
01:07 where the fire did originate.
01:10 But the Queensland Fire Service is on site here this morning and they are continuing
01:15 investigations into what has actually occurred.
01:18 At this stage they're not thinking that this is a suspicious fire.
01:23 Queensland Police Service is also here on site and they are preparing a report for the
01:28 coroner.
