00:06 So welcome to ANU's Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility,
00:08 home of Australia's Experimental Nuclear Physics Research Program.
00:12 At the heart of the facility is a 15 million volt
00:14 tandem Van de Graaff particle accelerator.
00:16 We also have a superconducting linear booster accelerator
00:20 and a whole suite of experimental equipment
00:22 that's designed to perform detailed experiment
00:24 with accelerated ion beams.
00:26 Scientists based in Australia and from across the world
00:29 come to the facility every year to perform experiments
00:32 that address a number of key questions in nuclear science.
00:35 Some of these include what happens when nuclei fuse together in nuclear fission.
00:41 ANU is the only university in Australia that will have a huge accelerator.
00:47 So that's why I chose ANU.
00:50 These research programs also provide a unique opportunity
00:54 for advanced research training for our students at ANU
00:56 who are enrolled in our undergraduate, masters and PhD programs.
