00:00 Good move, bad move, middle age.
00:05 I mean, you know, really, I guess this becomes a very tradable contract in years three and
00:10 years four.
00:11 Coach, how are you doing?
00:12 And how do you feel about the Josh Hart contract extension?
00:16 Good morning, Davis.
00:17 This kind of lined itself up Davis a couple of weeks ago, I would say the ending of June
00:23 when Josh Hart decided to opt into his contract for the 2324 season.
00:29 By opting in, what he did is he gave the Knicks more financial flexibility to go sign Dante
00:36 DiVincenzo.
00:37 Why does that make sense?
00:39 DiVincenzo, Hart, Brunson, part of the New York Knicks.
00:44 Now I call them the Villanova Knicks.
00:47 So that made sense.
00:48 When he opted into the deal, Davis, you knew that something was going to come on the back
00:53 burner.
00:54 Four years, $81 million for a guy that really is one of the best, what I call hard hat and
01:01 glue guys in the league.
01:03 Doesn't do the splashy stuff, doesn't score a ton, but he can make shots.
01:07 He's a great defender, great teammate, and one of the best rebounding guards in the NBA.
01:14 So for a team like New York that overachieved last year, he was one of the reasons why down
01:21 the stretch after they acquired him from Portland.
01:25 So this deal makes a ton of sense for New York's perspective.
01:30 You lock him up long term.
01:31 He is not only well loved by Tom Thibodeau, I would say as a Knicks fan, he's loved by
01:37 all of New York.
01:38 And he's got that number three, Davis, on that jersey under New York.
01:42 And we know that last time the Knicks had a hard hat glue number three, it was not Steve
01:49 Francis, it was not Stephon Marbury.
01:53 His name was John Starks.
01:56 So this is what they got, a guy that could fit in for a New York team with an over under
02:02 right now of 44 and a half wins.
02:05 Here's the key, Davis.
02:07 It's not going to be Josh Hart.
02:09 It's not going to be Jalen Brunson.
02:11 It's not going to be Devin Chenzo.
02:13 To me, here's the things.
02:15 Number one, does Julius Randle play like odd year Randle?
02:19 Look at his stats since he's been with the Knicks.
02:21 1920, awful.
02:22 2021, great.
02:23 Playoffs that year, terrible.
02:24 21-22, awful.
02:25 22-23, great.
02:26 And then obviously the 22-23 playoffs, he was kind of rough.
02:34 So it's going to be interesting to see what they got out of Randle.
02:37 But it's two guys really that are going to be the key.
02:41 To me, it's Barrett and it's Grimes.
02:44 Can they be consistent offensive threats for a New York Knicks team that if they do, could
02:50 be a top four or five team in the East?
02:53 If not, Davis, you're looking at a playing team.
