00:00 We're all really very excited to see the arrival of the railway carriage at the old ambulance station.
00:05 We're going to refurbish it and turn it into a beautiful art cafe for the community of Bexhill
00:10 and create an inclusive space where almost everyone is welcome.
00:14 So the old ambulance station in Bexhill is a business model,
00:20 it's worst case of how to inject a community of artists
00:26 that has maximum impact for an area in need of social and economic growth.
00:33 The ambulance station here at Bexhill has been bought by Richard Upton
00:37 and his generosity was well-vowed so he's finally developed it as somewhere for artists
00:43 to have artist space at a reasonable rent in a time frame that makes sense
00:48 to somebody trying to establish themselves in a career which is incredibly difficult in the art world.
00:53 So each tenant is contracted to do three hours a month community work,
00:57 to do something that involves their art and benefits the community.
01:00 I'm working on giving pottery lessons to the older generations.
01:05 I feel like old people get forgotten about a little bit and I love old people
01:09 so I want to connect more with them.
01:11 People in Bexhill can realise how rare this is as an opportunity for a developer to do something
01:16 which is philanthropic and is a developer with a social understanding and awareness
01:22 and wanting to make things better in a real sense for human beings, for humanity, for society.
01:29 I see.
