Twitter to Purge Inactive Accounts, Potentially Freeing Up Coveted Usernames
  • last year
Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced in a tweet that the social media company is purging inactive accounts on its platform, which could make a number of long-desired usernames available. The move is more conservative than the company's policy that users should log in at least every 30 days to prevent their accounts from being permanently removed. Elon Musk, Twitter's owner, has said that the company is purging accounts that have had "no activity at all for several years" and warned that the result of the purge may mean users' follower counts drop. Twitter has considered selling desired usernames through online auctions to generate additional revenue.
