The trial about "Tragedy of Zolitude" started in Riga
The largest trial in the history of Latvia has started. The court of Zemgale suburb of Riga has started consideration of the case in which 263 people are found the victims and 54 killed. The materials of the case are summarized in 80 volumes, and the total size of the claimed compensation amounts to 155 million euros. The case involves 144 of the witness, involved ten experts. The charges brought against nine persons. Five people will be prosecuted for violation of the rules of construction, which entailed heavy consequences. Four others are accused of neglection of duty as public officials. The shop "Maxima" collapsed on November 21, in 2013, killing 54 people. The main reason for the collapse is considered to be a violation of building codes.
