Under the leftist government of Argentina’s President Cristina Fernandez the country’s unemployment rate has registered its lowest level in 24 years, and 100,000 new jobs have been created. Government officials and experts agree that this is due to boosting domestic consumption through social investment policies and salary increases. Even so, the right wing continues to demand reduced government spending to bring down inflation, but government analysts insist that this would lead to a greater concentration of wealth and social inequality.
