00:00Twenty-one years after its creation, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America Peoples' Trade Treaty, ALBA-TCP,
00:07continues to be an innovative benchmark for brotherhood and cooperation among the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.
00:15But how was it born? What challenges did it face? And how has it overcome them?
00:19Let's take a look with the following material.
00:21The birth of ALBA-TCP was the historic and sovereign response of the peoples of our Americas to the neoliberal hegemonic that deepened dependency and inequality.
00:35The turning point that paved the way for ALBA occurred at the Fourth Summit of the Americas in Martel Plata, Argentina, in November 2005.
00:42There, the presidents of Venezuela, Argentina, and Brazil, together with other progressive leaders, gave a resounding no to the hegemonic project,
00:50definitely burying the FTAA and proclaiming the need for a different model.
00:55A year earlier, on December 14, 2004, in Havana, Cuba, the dream was already coming true.
01:00Venezuela's president, Hugo Chavez, and Cuba's leader, Fidel Castro Cruz, signed the joint declaration to establish the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America.
01:08The evolution to ALBA-TCP came about with the incorporation of the concept of the People's Trade Treaty.
01:14It is not a superficial addition.
01:16It is the economic backbone that distinguishes ALBA from any other integration scheme.
01:21Beyond political summits, ALBA has generated programs with a very high social impact,
01:25such as the Operation Miracle, which restored the sight of more than 6 million low-income people throughout the region,
01:31and the literacy program based on the Cuban method, Yes, I Can, which resulted in the literacy of more than 4 million people
01:38and led to Venezuela being declared an illiteracy-free territory.
01:42More recently, the bloc has continued to promote brotherhood and cooperation among its members.
01:47For example, in November 2025, ALBA-TCP, together with Bolivarian government of Venezuela,
01:52activated an air and maritime bridge to send Soyati 8 to Cuba and other Caribbean countries after hurricanes such as Melissa.
01:58This involved providing supplies to help rebuild infrastructure, basic necessities and human talent,
02:03demonstrated a rapid, solidity-based and coordinated response capacity.
02:08In the face of adversity, ALBA-TCP continues to provide support and form a permanent coalition
02:13confronting U.S. interventionism in Haiti, imperialist threats to Latin America through the invasion of the Caribbean,
02:19the blockade of Cuba and situations that threaten the sovereignty and peace of countries in the region,
02:23keeping alive the legacy of its founders.
02:25...the institutions that amenazan la soberanÃa y la paz de los padres.
