Mexico City's economically strapped taxi drivers deeply resent competition from services such as Uber and Cabify offered through smart phone apps. The cabbies charge unfair competition, given the amount of rules, regulations, verifications, and payments they are burdened with. The government anti-monopoly agency says the newcomers provide a public service. The cabbies charge authorities with favoring transnationals that violate existing transit laws.
