Lives – Pablo Neruda’s ‘Canto General’

A window on the Latin American continent, as seen through the eyes of people, either well known or ordinary individuals, who give the viewer an insight into the essence of the region. In today’s program Mexican art critic and Marxist theoretician, Alberto Hijar Serrano, speaks of Pablo Neruda’s tenth book of poems, “Canto General,” first published in Mexico in 1950. Hijar puts this epic work that sings of the natural beauty and history of the Americas into the political and social context of Latin America at the time, commenting on Neruda’s relationship to the Chilean and Mexican governments, the Communist Party and Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siquieros. teleSUR
