00:00The President of Latin America and the Caribbean participated on Wednesday in an extraordinary summit of the Alpha TCP in search of regional unity.
00:20On Thursday, the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Maoneng, confirmed that China opposes foreign intervention in Venezuela's international affairs.
00:36And the Israeli military has launched the second phase of its operation called Gideon's Tanks aimed at occupying Gaza City.
00:49Hello and welcome to From the South. My name is Belen de los Santos. I'm from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
01:06The President of Latin America and the Caribbean participated on Wednesday in an extraordinary summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of America's People's Trade Agreement, ALBA-TCP. Let's see more.
01:24The 13th extraordinary summit of ALBA-TCP, the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, called for regional unity.
01:34In the heat of the latest threats against the sovereignty and peace of Venezuela, we have made a great call as I ratify the National Union of all Venezuelans.
01:46To guarantee Venezuelan peace, with sovereignty, with territorial integrity, with respect for the self-determination of the peoples and of our people, in particular the union of all Venezuelans and Venezuelans.
02:05And I dare from this tribune of something with the permission of you brothers and sisters of Latin America and the Caribbean to call for the union of all the rebel peoples of all the social movements of Latin America, of the Caribbean, of the United States of Africa and Maya, in defense of the right of the Venezuelan people to sovereignty near to peace to self-determination.
02:34In this regard, the President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, rejected the United States military deployment in the Caribbean, which he described as a violation of the sovereignty of Latin American peoples.
02:53The announced prerogative.
02:55The announced prerogative that the United States government intends to grant to its law enforcement agencies to act against criminal organizations within the borders of other states, constitutes an unacceptable threat of aggression in violation of the sovereignty of nations in the region, and an additional alteration of the regime of peace and cooperation, that the Latin American and Caribbean countries have been striving to ensure.
03:23The efforts to guarantee the efforts to guarantee the aforementioned deployment of military name and, reportedly involving up to 4,000 troops, and presented as a dissuasive act under the false and disproportionate argument of combating drug trafficking cartels.
03:44This has been said and is being promoted by the most narcotic state in the world, the United States.
03:56Meanwhile, the President of Bolivia, Luis Arzé, urged the defense of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.
04:05There is no doubt that fascism is stalking us, and the peoples of Latin America must prepare ourselves to resist and defeat.
04:18Bolivia joins the firm voice of ALBA TCP, to reject, all forms of interference, and to reiterate that Latin America, and the Caribbean are and must continue to be a zone of peace.
04:31The true security of our peoples is not built with the presence of warships, or the deployment of foreign troops, but with more integration, more social justice, more democracy, and more sovereignty.
04:44In the same line, the co-president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, reaffirmed that the region must prevail as a zone of peace, overcoming any differences.
05:01They not only attack, destroy, destroy, and murder in those regions, but they also attack and threaten our region, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
05:26We have declared a peace zone, that is how we declared it, that is how we decided, and that is how we are moving forward.
05:56In spite of the contradictions that may exist, in spite of the differences that may exist in Latin America and the Caribbean, we are marching, we are moving forward, overcoming the aggressions of those who are destroying the people,
06:26back there, in Gaza.
06:28Back there, in Gaza.
06:33In this context, the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, recall the legacy of Chávez, precursor of Latin American and Caribbean integration.
06:48I know that Chávez used to say, and put his hand like this, and he said Alba is a fist, and it is important to keep that fist clenched, that unity, because that unity means solidarity.
07:05And at the same time, we have to make sure that that this fist has strength by improving solidarity, all around it, everywhere.
07:22If we don't do that, we will find that Alba and the member countries, but they will not have impact that we want them to have beyond the borders of Alba.
07:39In its final declaration, Alba supported the initiative of the president pro tempore of CELIC, Gustavo Petro, for the region to take a position in defense of peace, unity, and security.
07:59We support the call of the president pro tempore of the community of Latin American and Caribbean states, Gustavo Petro, president of Colombia, to an urgent meeting of foreign ministers of the region to establish a joint, dignified and sovereign position in the face of the threats of aggression and interference against Venezuela,
08:27and any interventionist attempt that threatens the people of Latin America and the Caribbean.
08:37We represent 30% of the governments of CELIC together with other governments.
08:49As Ralph says, we are supporting the initiative publicly announced by President Gustavo Petro VIII.
08:56We reaffirm the freedom and independence one more than two centuries ago, and we proclaim our unwavering decision to defend peace, unity, and regional security free from all forms of foreign intervention.
09:09From the Alba summit, it was also announced that a maritime transport fleet will set sail on Thursday, August 21st, to strengthen commercial exchange among the countries of the bloc.
09:29And the Alba TCP organization published on Thursday the final declaration resulting from the 13th extraordinary meeting of heads of state.
09:43The statement begins by stating that they expressed strong and total support for the constitutional president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros,
09:51who is once again facing a brutal offensive of political and judicial persecution promoted by the United States.
09:58And they categorically reject the orders of the United States government to deploy military forces under false pretext with the clear intention of imposing illegal and interfering policies contrary to the constitutional order of the states of Latin America and the Caribbean.
10:16It continues saying that they condemn the imperialist policy of harassment and destabilization,
10:22which through unilateral coercive measures, blockades, diplomatic blackmail, and media campaigns seek to undermine regional peace and security in open contravention of the spirit of cooperation, brotherhood, and dialogue that should prevail among free nations.
10:39The document concludes by stating that today, as the vanguard of free peoples, they declared that true peace can only come from social justice, respect for the laws and sovereignty of nations, and that self-determination of the peoples.
10:56In the face of imperialism that threatens with wars, violence, and blockades, Latin America and the Caribbean reaffirmed that they will follow the path of Bolívar, Martí, Chávez, and Fidel,
11:07and reaffirmed their irrevocable commitment to protect the region so that they may continue to follow this path.
11:16Now we have a short break coming up, but first, remember you can join us on TikTok at Telus Ringlich, where you will find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.

11:46Welcome back to From the South. We continue with more information.
11:53On Wednesday, Venezuela's Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López warned the U.S. government that any attack on the Bolivarian nation would be perceived as an attack on the region.
12:03The head of national defense emphasized that his country has armed forces and a dignified population with a strong sense of patriotism, ready to defend their sovereignty.
12:14He made it clear that the Bolivarian nation is capable of preserving its territory and independence, and warned Washington of the possible consequences of any military action in the region.
12:35I tell the United States not to dare to interfere here in Venezuela.
12:39I say this on behalf of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, who feel this in their hearts, and in their blood.
12:53Don't you dare, because we are not just the armed forces, we are a united people, with a national identity, who want and love peace, who want and love our country.
13:02Don't set foot on Venezuelan territory, and attack our sovereignty.
13:14Because it would not only be Venezuela.
13:18It would be an aggression against all of Latin America.
13:21Meanwhile, on Thursday, the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Maoning, confirmed that China opposes foreign intervention in Venezuela's internal affairs.
13:47During a press conference, the spokeswoman confirmed that Beijing rejects the use of threats in international relations under any circumstances,
13:56adding that she hopes the United States will contribute more to the well-being of Latin America and the Caribbean.
14:02In response to a question about the military deployment suggested by the U.S. government representatives,
14:07she declined to make an official declaration.
14:10Maoning reiterated China's opposition to any action that violates the suggestion in the case regarding the internal interference in Venezuela.
14:23The hostosian national independence movement of Puerto Rico has condemned the deployment of U.S. warships in the Caribbean,
14:42describing it as a military provocation against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
14:47The organization's co-president, Julio Muriente Pérez, accused the Trump administration of exploiting the war on drugs
14:54to threaten the sovereignty of Venezuela and the entire region.
14:58He also denounced a multi-million dollar reward offered for the capture of President Nicolás Maduro,
15:04describing it as a flagrant violation of international law,
15:09and also reaffirming the solidarity with the Bolivarian revolution,
15:13Muriente called on people to speak out against this new imperialist aggression.
15:19Finally, he warned that any attempt at military intervention would be met with unity and resistance from the Latin American people.
15:33And we stay on topic as Iran also condemned the United States' threats against Venezuela,
15:39stating that they endanger regional peace and violate international law.
15:44In a statement, the Iranian foreign ministry denounced Washington for maintaining interventionist and illegal policies.
15:52It stated that the use of force against Venezuelan sovereignty is a violation of the United Nations Charter.
15:58Tehran expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people and government
16:01and urged the Security Council and the UN Secretary General to respond immediately
16:07to what it described as a threat to the Caribbean stability.
16:11And we switch topics as a study by the National Autonomous University of Mexico
16:23concluded that it would take U.S. President Donald Trump at least 50 years
16:28to fulfill his promise to deport 15 million immigrants.
16:32The report indicates that President Trump's anti-immigrant rhetoric is spreading throughout the region and the world,
16:39despite deportation numbers remaining unchanged compared to previous administrations.
16:44It also highlights that this reflects the growing complexity of the immigration system
16:49and an increase in self-depotations due to fear and intimidation.
16:54Furthermore, it emphasizes that Latin America and the Caribbean have become the epicenter of international migration,
17:01experiencing a sharp rise in the number of migrants over the last decade.
17:09And the Minister of the Presidency of the Dominican Republic, José Ignacio Paliza,
17:16announced that Japan will contribute $10 million to the multinational security support mission in Haiti.
17:23This support aims to bolster international efforts to stabilize the Caribbean nation.
17:28This announcement followed a meeting between the Chancellor and Josie Matarajasi,
17:33the head of Japan's cabinet secretariat, during which they discussed the need for a joint response to the Haitian crisis.
17:40The Dominican diplomat emphasized that this contribution demonstrates Tokyo's commitment to peace and security in the Caribbean region.
17:49In addition to cooperation with Haiti, the leaders also discussed the two nations' 90 years of diplomatic relations.

18:20Welcome back to From the South.
18:40We continue with more information.
18:41In this case, we have updates from Brasilia on the Atente Kupu case
18:46and the disclosure of the document proving Bolsonaro's attempt to flee to Argentina.
18:52Our colleague from ICL, Eloise Bilela, with the details.
18:58The Federal Police of Brazil has just indicted Jair Messias Bolsonaro, the former president of Brazil,
19:05his son Eduardo Bolsonaro, and a religious leader called Silas Malafaia
19:11for trying to disrupt a judicial process that is going on right now here at the Supreme Court of Brazil.
19:20The police, the Federal Police, put together a document that is 170 pages long
19:27in which there are many messages exchanged between those three people
19:32and those messages were extracted from two phones seized from Bolsonaro this year.
19:40These conversations show clearly how they coordinated and decided
19:46which messages and texts and videos to produce and release to make them public
19:54in order to force, to pressure the federal, the Supreme Court into stopping this process
20:03and trying to get amnesty for Bolsonaro.
20:08These conversations are all documented now by the Federal Police,
20:13and Jair Messias Bolsonaro has 48 hours to explain why did he do that
20:22in a clear attempt to disrupt the judicial process, which in itself is a crime.
20:30In these documents, in these conversations, and in the phones, the Federal Police also found
20:36a document, a paper that Bolsonaro had in his phone that is a document asking the government
20:49of Argentina for asylum.
20:52So it shows clearly that Bolsonaro was thinking of escaping from Brazil not to face justice.
21:00His trial is getting to the very end right now.
21:05On the 2nd of September, the Supreme Court is going to get together, and the five judges
21:14in charge of this case are going to start delivering his decisions right after the lawyers for Bolsonaro
21:25and his accomplices present their oral arguments in defense of them.
21:32Right after that, the five judges then are going to say and give their final verdict.
21:39And it's very clear from all the proofs shown in this process so far that Bolsonaro should be condemned
21:48for attempting a coup, to organize a coup so he could stay in power after he lost the bid for re-election.
21:57Topics is a tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, began on Thursday
22:06in Turquillo for the 99th anniversary of his birth.
22:10The first activity was a bicycle parade along Ancara's main avenues organized by the Cuban Embassy
22:17and the José Martí Friendship Association.
22:20During the tour, participants voiced slogans in support of Cuba, calling for an end to the economic
22:26locate imposed by the United States, and demanding that Cuba be removed from Washington's list
22:32of countries that sponsor terrorism.
22:34The Cuban ambassador, Alejandro Díaz Palacios, thanked them for their support, emphasizing that
22:40such initiatives strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
22:56And at this moment, we go now to Palestine, as the Israeli military has launched the second phase
23:12of its operation, called Gideon Tanks, aimed at occupying Gaza.
23:17This prolonged offensive, expected to last around four months, is being carried out with the
23:23support of around 50,000 to 60,000 reservists, in addition to regular forces that were already
23:30deployed.
23:31The offensive follows a decision by the Israeli regime's political and military leadership
23:36to capture Gaza City after a month of military pressure and hostilities against the Palestinian
23:43people.
23:44The operation's broader objective includes forcing the population's displacement towards the southern
23:50border with Egypt, with Israeli officials acknowledging plans to encourage or coerce residents to leave
23:57Gaza permanently.
24:06Precisely in this context, the Israeli forces shot and killed Mohamed Shalana, a player in the
24:12Palestinian national basketball team, while he was trying to obtain food and medicine for his
24:17family in Hanunis. More than 800 athletes have been killed by genocidal troops.
24:23Shalan, also known as the earthquake, was one of the country's most prominent athletes. His death has
24:29caused great shock within the Arab sports community. Over the past 24 hours, Palestinian sports has also lost
24:38the equipment management of the Shabab Rafa club, and Amar Hrani, a former player for the Al Salah club.
24:47According to the Palestinian Football Association, more than 800 athletes have been killed in Gaza since
24:53October of 2023, and at least 288 sport facilities, that is, including gymnasiums, clubs and stadiums,
25:02have been destroyed or damaged as a result of Israeli attacks.
25:06The Israeli army plans to recruit young Jewish men living abroad in an attempt to fill a shortage of
25:17more than 10,000 soldiers for its genocidal initiatives. This seeks to make up for the
25:24military deficit aggravated by the increase in ultra-Orthodox deserts and will follow and focus
25:31on countries such as the United States and France, with the aim of attracting between 600 and 700
25:39volunteers annually. The movement arises in the midst of the genocide being carried out by Israel in the
25:46Gaza Strip, and in addition to the search for recruits abroad, the Israeli regime has intensified the
25:53arrest of Haredi, that is, ultra-Orthodox Jews, who are refusing to do military service.
25:59General Efia Defrin, the military spokesperson, confirmed that at least 60,000 recruitment letters
26:06will be sent out this week.
