A window on the Latin American continent, as seen through the eyes of people, either well known or ordinary individuals, who give the viewer an insight into the essence of the region. Today's program looks at the life and music of Jamaican reggae singer, songwriter, musician, and guitarist Bob Marley on the 70th anniversary of his birth. Marley (1945-1981), whose music is perhaps more popular now than when he was alive, achieved international fame and is largely responsible for putting Jamaican music on the world map. In addition to his role as a musician, Marley was a committed Rastafari who infused his music with a sense of spirituality and who championed the struggles of African peoples in Africa and the Americas against injustice and for self-determination. teleSUR
